I think it's a very nice gesture. If you are unsure, you can always call the local offices for these people and make sure it would be okay. People in general don't do this as much as they used to, but I think it is a very nice gesture. Good for you!

I don't tip the Mailman as he gets good wages. But the paperboy is either before or after school, or much lower paid and yes they get the tip.

I think if you are worried about them getting in trouble the best thing to do is give a card and cookies. It is more like a friendly gesture rather than a tip.

get real. of course we should tip them. they provide a good service and who cares what the post office regs say - give them a card with $20 in it - show appreciation by tipping at holidays - tip paperboy definitely about $15

You can tip the paper boy or girl. but you cannot tip a postal service person. However you can leave them a card.
A postal service person is a government official and they cannot except gifts or money. Just as a Nurse or Doctor in a hospital cannot. However cards and flowers sent to the hospital to say thank you. is always a nice jester.

I don't know if they would or wouldn't get in trouble. Since they are on the job they could but if you ran into them outside of the job i wouldn't see anything wrong with it.

When I delivered papers many moons ago, most of my customers would leave me anywhere from $5 to $20 when it came to the Christmas holidays. It was their way of saying Thanks for what you do, no matter the weather!
