Danes are beautiful, gentle and unique dogs. The are couragous, friendly, and affectionate. They are loyal and affectionate and easily trained. Because of their sheer size and strength, the require a lot of training at a young age to ensure they are managable by a human who may well weigh less then them! Like most giant breeds, they unfortunately do not live very long. They are large dogs and it will not be cheap to feed them the good quality dog food they deserve! Because of their large size, both the owner and the dog will be more comfortable if there is a litttle extra square footage in the house...and maybe an extra couch as well!
There is nothing wrong with any breed of dog in and of itself. Everyone will have a different opinian based on how well that dog breed suits their lifestyle and personality. For example, if you have 4 kids, work 8 hours a day, and don't like to be outside much, you will probably have a terrible experience with a Dalmatian or a Jack Russell Terrier.
If you are considering a Dane, I would first do a serious, honest evaluation of your lifestyle, personality, and the kind of committments you are prepared to make to a dog, After that, do a lot of research about Danes, including talking to Dane owners and responsible breeders and getting a stack of books from the library, will help you decide if the Dane is the right breed for you.

Great Dane's are fantastic animals. I got mine from a rescue group about 6 years ago, he was 1-2 years at the time. I've owned large dogs before and currently also have a rottweiler. But my great dane is my baby. He is incredibly loveable, playful, gentle when he needs to be, calm, wonderful temperment, definitely a lover not a fighter. I take him to the nursing home where I used to work, everybody loves him there. He is calm and well behaved in that environment, nothing seems to faze him. All in all, best dog I've ever had.
That being said, like any large breed dog they are prone to certain health problems which can be expensive. As a rule of thumb, the larger the dog the larger the bill (food, medicine, vet bills, etc.) Fortunately my great dane has been the picture of health, and he's almost 8 years old now. He's never had "bloat" and I've never had the pexy surgery done. And yes, as with any large breed dog they do eat and poop a lot. Because of their height they may have a tendency to "counter surf" in your kitchen. I taught mine the "out" command and now have no problems with him trying to snag whatever I'm cooking. Also, don't leave breakable things down low on coffee tables or end tables, their tails are very powerful. Great danes are truly gentle giants but most do not realize their own size or strength. Because of that reason you have to watch small children around them. Great danes love affection but have a tendency to lean against you when you pet them. My great dane knocked over a 4 year old boy at the dog park doing this one time. The kid was fine, and the mom had a good laugh. Danes are easy-going clowns, and mine was pretty easy to train. Very intelligent, silly at times, you'll fall in love with them.

Very nice dogs. They, like other large breed dogs, are prone to a condition called gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), which means that the stomach bloats up with gas and twists around itself. This is a surgical emergency and is often fatal; it often occurs when the dog exercises just after eating. So--if you get one, be sure to have your vet "pexy" the stomach to the body wall muscles as a preventive measure. This surgery can easily be done when a female GD is spayed--or if it's a male, it can be done at the same time but obviously involves an additional incision.
If you get one from a breeder, be sure to see the health history for at least the past three generations so you minimize the chances of hereditary problems. Or, better yet, get your dog from a rescue.
Good luck!

They're too big for me! They sometimes have eating disorders too. But I love all dogs and would certainly say that if you have the love in your heart for one then get one. You need a large fenced yard, and also have to watch out for gastric torsion, hip dysplasia, heart disease and tail injuries.
Temperament: The Great Dane is a gentle and lively dog breed. The Great Dane typically does well with children and other household pets, but supervision is recommended. Often difficult to train, the Great Dane requires a strong leader and firm training. The Great Dane is considered to be a steady dog breed.
They are in the Working Group.

Perhaps you meant opinion.
My opinion of Great Danes are they're extremely large and eat a lot, but they're extremely docile and good with children. But of course, that all depends on the owner and the way the dog was raised.

too big....i like smaller dogs much better! like chihuahuas, pomeranians, Yorkies, etc. but great danes are too big for me and don't strike me as "cute and cuddley"...
i love to be able to hold a small dog in my arms and watch it think he's so big barking at the other big dogs...but he's just a peanut! lol ♥
everyone has their own preferences on size, though!

Gorgeous ; lovable , and powerful . Keep small children away from them because they don't know their own strength ; but they are otherwise gentle .
