Wine is a mocker and hard drink is a brawler. Alcohol is made by fermentation, which is a process of decay. Alcohol is a drug, which has become accepted as a social pass-time.Next to nicotine, it is the most abused drug there is. It is a proved fact that alcohol is addictive and is probably the most prevalent cause of premature deaths -through drunk driving, domestic violence and other violence, and through alcohol related diseases. It is also a major contributor to the break down of marriages, abusive marriages and abused children. How many more reasons could you possibly need?
While it is true that Jesus had the occasional glass of wine, it wasn't fermented like it is today. Plus Jesus Christ was more than able to stop at one glass. The wine He miracuously created didn't have time to ferment at all. When a drink is a fermented drink, you invite danger. The emphasis is on moderation; something which mankind seems to have forgotten -if indeed he ever knew it.

A great many of our social problems stem from alcohol abuse. However, alcohol has always been with us.
In the old days (pre-refrigeration) making wine or spirits was the only way to preserve your crop. Now days, though, our only use for alcohol is recreation.
And many folks can't have a little recreation, they drink until they hurt themselves, or someone else. Or until they can't manage their lives anymore. Those are some of the reasons evangelicals cite for reducing alcohol use.

Is alcohol it of itself evil? No. Can it be used for evil? Yes. Does it edify me in any way, shape, or form? No. If it does, then I fail to see how. Thus, though as a Christian I would be ABLE to drink alcohol, I can see no point in doing so. It is not necessarily evil, but it is playing with fire. I am not, as a Christian, supposed to get drunk. Sure, there might be a heck of a kick on Saturday night, but how about the kickback on Sunday morning? Commonly known as a hangover. God bless!

Ephesians 5:18 NIV
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

Why are so many evangelicals so anti. Anyone who believes they know God better than someone else and therefore are responsible to tell that other person how to live may be skating on thin ice spiritually.

Num 21:16 And from thence [they went] to Beer: that [is] the well whereof the LORD spake unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.

I don't know that this is necessarily true, most of the christians I know are always getting drunk while several atheists I know including myself never drink alcohol. I am not anti alcohol for others unless it is drunk drivers though. I just prefer not to kill my own brain cells.

By selecting a specific enemy or target to oppose, people can be united among a common cause. It gives them a sense of identity and allows the leader to easily spread the beliefs that he truly believes matters.

There's really no definitive answer to a question as open as that. Why do people believe the things they believe? If it's not founded in the ideology they claim to support (in this case, Christianity), there is no real answer. People disagree with you - get over it.

It happens to be "THEIR" warped sense of what they believe in, according to their FALSE PROPHETS.

Unfortunately, they are mostly misinformed EVANGELICALS who merely cast a darker shadow on what Christianity was originally intended to do as they boldly profess "in the name of [THEIR kind of] God..."

And now their fanatical zeal is being brought well into the political arena. What a DREADFUL THOUGHT of NO SEPARATION between Church and State!

What is this country coming to now?? ...God help us all.

Peace be with you.
