Growth plates are the areas at the end of all the bones in the body, during childhood, where growth is occuring. They appear on x-rays, but no doctor in the world would do an entire body x-ray to prove they are present. If you had a problem in growth, or an injury, they would x-ray the area and would see the growth plate of that bone. It would not tell them much, except it was there or not. Human growth is not just about the growth plates, where the growing is happening, but also a matter of pituitary growth hormones which direct the amount and rate of growth happening. A check of the growth hormones is done with a blood test. You could certainly discuss your concerns with your GP, but as long as you are of normal height and development for your age, determined by a growth chart, he likely will just reassure you and may or may not order the test. He will not agree to x-ray you all over through- the dosage of radiation would not be healthy for you at all. If you are a guy, then you have another 4-6 years of growth ahead of you. If you are a girl, you likely have already reached your adult height, and in that case there would be no growth plates left to see. Sorry, but you can't just look because you are curious. There really needs to be a valid medical excuse for it.

Most physicians won't do it unless there is a problem. It means you would have to have an MRI which is costly.
