I used to be frightened of death. But then I stared death in the face and I saw the whites of his eyes when I almost died in a car crash in 2004. I'm not scared anymore. I'll die eventually, it's simple reality. In the meantime, I'll live as well as I possibly can and love every minute of it.
Interesting enough, the accident didn't make me any more religious than I was before. If anything, it made me doubt more than ever.
I almost died. Very very close. I have a metal rod in my left leg now holding it together. I limp (badly when it gets cold out). I had a skull fracture and bleeding in my brain in two places.
I could swear to this day that my dead mother was holding my hand in the hospital.
Yet, I lived. Despite it all.
But does any of that mean the Christian god exists? No, it doesn't. What it means is that I had fantastic doctors and that, my brain was either random firing during a time of extreme trauma or my mother really was there (I think she's the female shadow ghost I've seen in this house).
You're letting it scare you too much. You need to learn to accept it. It's simply the cycle of life. Just live a good life, love those who mean much to you, and try to be happy.
Death is simply a part of the cycle of life. Nothing more. There's no reason to fear it.
orange, that was unbelievably insightful. Wonderfully well said.

I have a hamster. You are asking yourself right now what does that have to do with my question right? Well, I'll tell you.
I got a hamster for my kids. They wanted a pet and we live in an apartment, so a hamster seemed like a good idea. After we had the hamster for a couple of days I started to feel bad. I thought, how sad that this hamster has to live in this cage (even though it is a hamster palace and much cooler than my apartment.). His whole life consists of running around in a ball, on a wheel, through a tube, chewing wood, eating and sleeping. But.. I noticed after awhile that he actually likes to do these things, and makes us laugh all the time. Then to my surprise I noticed that the hamster actually likes us. So to answer your question, the hamster's life is important because it makes a positive impact on ours. He brings us joy. We are important because without us the hamster would die. So if a little hamster's life is important to two children surely yours is important to somebody as well. Try not to focus on death so much, and focus on living. If things start to seem to overwhelming maybe seek some professional help. And lets say our lives don't mean a thing... do you really want to waste what time you have being miserable and depressed thinking about death? And what if life does have meaning that you haven't found yet?

Listen, Jerse, you've got to get a grip. It's not uncommon to dream of dying. Life is what you make it, insignificant as it might seem. But, you've got to get rid of these negative thoughts and vibes in your life otherwise that's all that it will be. Start small. Smile and say hi to the first old lady you see tomorrow. Gaze out there at that enormous full moon and think of some positive, happy things you plan to do real soon for yourself or for others. Enjoy the simple life. If you still have your mom and she is near, call her up and tell her you want her to cook your favorite meal this coming Sunday. Then take her some flowers and enjoy her company. If hope you can do that.

Jerse the reason you are having nightmares about death is because you don't really believe in Life. God is the creator and giver of all life so if you reject him you reject life. It sounds like you believe in death and dying more than you believe in life and living. However you are right about the dot on the canvas analogy. The way I see it, we are like little drops of water (96%) and just like water as we exist our lives also evaporate until there is nothing of us left on this earth. However, and again just like water, we never truly die forever. Just as evaporation doesn't end the life cycle of water, neither do we. The question is where does the water fall or we get to live out our eternity? Drops of water usually return to the sea from which it came unless a strong wind blows and carries it off to a dead swamp or rat infested sewer. Where will the wind of your belief or lack there of land you?

So if there is no point in your life... why bother? There IS purpose to your life, there IS a God who sent you here to learn and grow and be happy. This life is a school if you will... you will determine your eternity from your life here.
You DID live before you came here.. in the pre existance. You knew your family and friends before you came here. You chose to come here and follow the path of your brother Jesus Christ. You were joyful about this plan.
Your life does matter........ sad you don't have beleif in your purpose.
You wont feel anything when you die. You will be greeted by those whom you knew before, maybe your family who has died before you. You will then return to the spirit world from whence you came.
Sounds to me like you may have some depression spirit with you. Possibly try praying... or getting some medication.
Take care-

No, I don't. I have a lot of life left in this old girl. When my body dies, my soul will cross over. I believe our souls live many lives. The whole point of living many lives is to continue to expand your knowledge and grow.
Sweetie, you need to get out into life and find some happiness. Good luck, always.

Yes I do, that is that I feel time on earth is fast running out. I don't honestly think we have long(in the grand sceam of things) on this planet before it is turned into fire.
I have no fear of death because I know the next life is so much better than this one. But I do fear for those who will not be joining me in Heaven.
and by the way, you don't get extra points for using bad language. There is no reward at all in using such offensive words.

Mortality would suck. That's why I'm glad that Jesus Christ died on the cross to offer immortality or "eternal life."
God is trying to reach you in your dreams. He is trying to lead you to Him. Your life means so much to Him. He's the one who gave you that life. You will have to answer to him what you chose to do with it regardless of if you believe in Him or not.
Death is not final for anyone. The believers will join the other believers, Jesus Christ and God the Father in Heaven. The ones who deny Christ will join Satan and his demons in Hell.
This is one very clear example of what I mean when I say in this forum that it is FREEING to find that small measure of faith within yourself and turn your life over to God. You don't have to live in fear. You lie down at night and sleep in peace. You don't have to feel like your life doesn't matter because it gives you purpose and definition.
Atheism has nothing to offer anyone. Only Christ can offer eternal life and real LIFE in this one on earth.

Well, I feel like my time to get another graduate degree is running out, but I don't feel like I'm going to die. Yes mortality does suck. Once I fainted and I felt like I saw the universe and it was insignificant. It was the worst feeling ever when I came to. Don't know if it means anything (I'm agnostic), but if it does, things really suck.

I'm the opposite of you. I'm scared of the word "forever." I would hate to live forever.
No one's life means anything except to other people's lives, which mean nothing as well. It's a never ending chain of dominoes that will affect nothing outside the domino chain.
