I want specific ideas, wherein i can help the people of gujarat, to restore their, ground water problems, by may be making dams..or is there any other better idea..? I want to start a movment, wherein people participate, and don't expect the govt. to do everything for them. Please help me with practical ideas.

Ground water level in Gujrat state has gone down a lot and people are facing a lot of problem. To solve this problem we can do following things.
1 Recharge ground water: we should see to it that we recharge ground water and not even a drop goes waste. We need to treat sewage and waste water and this should be poured back in the belly of mother earth.

2 Harvest rain water: We need to save rain water and this should be done with help of ponds and stop dams. Remember large dams are not very useful but small check dams at certain interval will help more.

3 Make check dams and pond: As written earlier these are the best way of saving rain water. They are economical and cover more area in totality. This can also be done as community work and so it will not need govt. funds.

3: Plant trees: Gujrat has one of the least forest cover and this needs to be saved and more trees planted. With afforestation drive water problem can be solved to a big extent. We have example of NGO's in Rajasthan who have done this in a desert so we can do it any where.

4 Save forests: Forests save water act as natural water rechargers and protect our environment and pure air. Gujrat has lost a lot of forest cover in last few years and this needs to be reversed.

All above can be done with peoples participation and will not need government funding and can be done very economically.

This problem can be solved by rain water harvesting. It includes collection of rain water in watershed areas. The people may collect water in tanks. It is quite useful because India is a tropical country and it depends mainly on monsoon. The western part of India receives less rainfall so,farm ponds can be of much use.

Extract the water in a sustainable manner. If the water is taken out at a rate slower than it is being replenished, then the water will not run out. But that's saying that people will stop breeding which is pretty unlikely...

charging ground water has various formats one such is to treat the used water and allow it to flow into the soil apart from this grow ample tress near hilly region so that during rain water is stagnated and will sink into soil as individuals u can use the water meticulasly for ex water used for cleaning food ingredients can be collected seprately and be used for cleaning utensils to clear initial grease etc and then finally with less water u can do fine cleaning with clean water use detergents with low froth and caustic in nature so the less water is consumed to clean collect the water used to clean the utensils to water garden if you find it not practicle to collect water seprately like this for every activity you can have one collection tank where all the water get pooled and then will be treated to make it fit for primary use and the same be drained in soak pit near bore well or into soil so the ground water gets charged. if every individual cant affort seprate tank to collect water then u can go for a mega collection centre may be a effluent treatment plant and make entire water including sewerage to flow in big pipes at least for one kilometer before it reaches the etp have tap points at an interval of few meters so that u can tap methane gas which can be used as electricity or gobar gas i am sure it is sufficient to light street lamps and houses in few colonies so u r getting dual benifit one u will get green current and also after treating water the same can be sold to builders and road contractors to use it for their activities as they are one of the major consumers of water even industries and houses can buy the same to use it for cleaning vehicles, gardening, washing clothes, mopping and other activities.
