if part of the large colon has problems, EX sacks(diverticulitis), does not stretch, and may break, or etc. they have to cut it and remove the bile to outside the body somewhere other then the anus. hence the bag. now depending on what they have taken out(colon wise), and what the pathology was/is, they may be able to repair the colon/remaining colon, and the bag could be removed.

your question is very general, we don't know what the problem was in the first place. the best thing for you is to ask her doctor, nurses and techs, by law, can't tell you

My mother had the same thing done for the same reason. She only had to wait until the ends of the colon healed and they were reattached. When having the bag the stool goes directly into the bag which has to be emptied.

Sounds like she be back to normal. Lets hope so. Any time you have a question, ask her or your doctor.

If they connect the two loose ends of her colon back together, they will de-connect the route to the bag and she will be back to normal....lets hope. Good luck. Pops
