The only keloid scars I've had were from gaging my ears really big, then taking the gages out and letting them heal. And from a nasty cut that got infected on my wrist. Its really small, and the scars from my ears were surgically removed. However, I want to get a tattoo on the underside of my arms near my wrist. Do you think keloids will form from a small tattoo with no details (only letters) or do you think I should get it somewhere else? Has anyone seen or had a keloid form because of a tattoo? Please please help.

I have had other cuts that never did anything like that, only the one that got infected and my ears. My doctor said that earlobes are a really common place to form keloids, and the one on my wrist might not even be a keloid, as it is only slightly (and I mean slightly, like barely at all) raised. Other really bad cuts, like cutting my self bad, in the same place haven't scarred in such a manner.

I am prone to keloid scars as well.

I discovered this when a cut healed as a keloid.
I then got two tattoos on my lower back (by the same artist) and they developed into keloids....they aren't cute anymore, basically look like two black blobs...
But I have another tattoo in the same area, done by a different artist, that is flat and looks exactly the same as the day i got it...

A friend who is also a tattoo artist explained that although my skin is prone to keloids, if could also have a lot to do with the way the artist worked and how much pressure was used when actually tattooing me..

I would highly suggest before getting any ink done that you meet with the artist to go over your concerns..make sure you tell him/her about your keloids....

The area around your wrist may be different because the skin is so thin...

good luck!

Since you have keloid scarring you know how rare it is - it is not the same as simply a raised, hypertrophic scar. Piercing punctures through the skin unlike tattooing that only goes under the top layer into the dermis.

If you want to be on the safe side, have a very small area there tested with part of the design first. I would put money on it that nothing will happen.

I think you might end up getting keloid scarring from your tattoo because my sister got them from her ear piercing and from a belly piercing. She ended up having to remove both piercings.

You pretty much have that skin type that's predisposed to get them.

You can ask your dr.'s advice or even consult with a dermatologist, but I don't think you should get a tattoo.

I actually have a really close friend whom at first I though was branded, but after inquiring, found out that it was actually a tatoo that turned into a keloid. Make sure to go to a doctor to find out, but just to be safe, since you've already had situations with keloids maybe you should avoid getting a one, unless if you don't mind taking the chance that your tatoo might look like a brand.

I actually have heard of keloids forming from a tattoo... I think you'd be high risk for it, from the sounds of it.

there is always the possiblity but if most of your other injuries have not resulted in keloids then i guess you could always try it. just know that it could happen. and are you okay with that if you do scar?

Talk to your doctor and the artist who you want to do the tattoo. The artist may not even want to tattoo you if he/she knows that you could develop keloids.

To prevent stretch marks and scars effectively use cocoa butter or a mixture of olive oil and herbs. You can find more cheap and natural remedies for stretch marks and scars at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/stretchmarks.html
