Get a Sheltie (it's like a collie but smaller) they're easy to train and have a great personality - very friendly. My family has had them for years. Happy pet hunting!

The best dog i ever had around kids was a sheltie. Looks kinda like a fat miniature collie, great disposition, quick to learn, stays in the yard with very little training, no fence, no leashes. I've had two of these dogs now, and both have been great. They can be very active dogs, but adapt well to a slower pace as they age. Mine both were equally at home inside and out. The female is a bit territorial, and yaps at strangers, but the male just loved everyone and anyone. Also had a poodle, cocker spaniel, and a wheat-land terrier....terrier was very stubborn, and nippy, mini poodle, was gr8 dog too. Good luck, have fun....dogs are definitely great for kids!!

Sorry to say, but the very best dog in the world for kids... Golden Retrievers. I have one and he is by far the best dog I have ever owned. (I have had 4 dogs total) He is big. but so worth it. Mine is 87 lbs, but his mother was only 76. But they can go over 100 lbs. IF you pick a Golden, make sure is has a family tree and find one with small parents so you don't end up with a big one. As long as you train the dog well, he/she will respect you. Start when it's young and make sure it knows the rules. No means no, and DO NOT feed people food.... good luck

I have a cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle mix) and he is the most wonderful dog I have ever seen! Gentle, loyal, playful, quiet and protective. They do not shed and dont get too big. Check out www.perfinder.com they are a site to help you adopt a rescued dog. That is where I found mine and I am so happy with him. Mu kids are 10 and 11 now and we have had our dog for 4 years. Never a problem, he is potty trained perfectly and we can take him out without a leash (after some training) they are really smart!

I love the Pembroke Welsh Corgi but how about just anything that is healthy. The shelter has many well deserving dogs for your kids. Plus w/this you normally get a free spaying or neutering. Go to AKC website and research some of the dogs that interest you and then the ones you like show your kids to get their views on what they like. Good luck and Happy Holidays!!!

Family Dogs...
Labs are the best!
I have a yellow lab and it is the best around my family, it follows right next to my little sister(age 2) and dosnet run into her, and jsut follows her.
And is extremly fun to play with.
And in the AKC toll the labs has won the greatest votes for 7 years in a row the best family dog.

The best puppy you can get for these 2 is one they pick out themselves. Try a mixed breed, purebreds are too hyper most times to be around energetic children. Let them pick one out, name it, buy the food for it and make a commitment to it. Otherwise, you will find that after the "newness" wears off, they won't be around to take care of it. But most of all, have fun!!

Well you can get a bichon poodle.(I am not sure about the spelling.) Its a mix breed. It stays small. And it's cute. It also doesn't shed!. My friend has one and it is really cute.
