Alot of atheist claim to have grown up in a religious home and as such rebelled and are now atheists.

But alot of people, including myself, grew up in an atheist home and have found Christ.

Which are there more of?

I'm curious to see the answers on this one. I grew up in a Christian home & I'm a Christian.

I'm curious though, how does one "convert" to Atheism? What exactly do they believe in? Wouldn't it be more like a denouncement of truth and hope?

EDIT: I found this in the Bible to back up the claims by the Atheists who have answered you that there are more converting to Atheism than Christianity:

II Timothy 3:1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

THE ATHEISTS ARE FINALLY RIGHT ABOUT SOMETHING!

Atheism with out a doubt. Kids today are growing up with PS3 and other games and not the influence of the Church in their lives, so I think we will see more Atheists and less Religious people in general, not just Christians. Is this a good or bad thing? I do not know, time will tell.

Its not a question of what you believe its a matter of statistics here. If you are not raised with the Church in your life then how can you learn to beleive in what that Nations Religious beliefs are if the children of today spend more time playing Xbox and PS3s and the Internet. This could have as I said both good and bad effects in the future. Learning coordination skills at that age are very important in the future, but without good moral upbringing in a family can leave a person smart with no wisdom or compassion.

This is on average, annually between the years 1990 and 2000:

Atheism gained 1,315,322 people naturally while losing 878,227 people in conversion for a total of 437,095 new adherents. 150,089,508 people were atheist in 2000.

Christianity gained 22,708,799 people naturally while gaining an additional 2,501,396 people in conversion for a total of 25,210,195 new adherents. 1,999,563,838 people were Christian in 2000.

Basically, Christianity has more people and is growing faster.

Personally, I was born and raised in a Christian home and so was a Christian myself. However, I have changed my beliefs and no longer have faith in Christianity. I consider myself atheist or agnostic (I believe it's not impossible for a God to exist but unlikely) although I still find myself turning to God in certain situations. i.e. I had a minor motorcycle accident a few days ago and found myself thanking God that I wasn't hurt. I don't see it being impossible that I convert back to Christianity (or even another religion) later in life as I'm only 19, but this is where I am at right now.

Actually...from what I have gotten the gist of, most people did not grow up in an atheist home. I tend to find myself one of the few that actually did. (And explain to me how that is rebelling! I was never a believer to be able to rebel to begin with.)

And just because you did and are now Christian doesn't mean much. Population numbers are more telling, and the atheist population has grown over the past decades...

Though statistics shows that there are over a billion Christians today, in spiritual reality, a very large number are dead. The smallest seed sown has enlarged its branches and was planted everywhere but, as was prophesied in the Sacred Scriptures (both in the OT and in the NT), has shrunk - widely abandoned and even trampled upon - today since the 1960's to so few a faithful, the remnant. "But yet the Son of man, when he cometh, shall he find, think you, faith on earth?" (Luke 18.8)

Hard to tell really. And I doubt if there's any statistics on this aspect. But as most anything else, one's PERSPECTIVE and/or OPINION is usually based on a composite of one's environment while growing up, level of knowledge, and all the experiences up to that point in their life.

Of course, people are flexible enough and are bound to CHANGE whenever they feel the need to... except for those with hardened hearts and deaf ears.

Peace be with you.

why don't you look up the actual answer instead of asking a bunch of strangers opinions? Having more converts would not make one more "right" than the other anyway.
Pamela (answer below), stop being narrow minded. How on Earth can you see your religion as the only source of hope and truth in the world? HAHAHA, you call your religion "truth"???!!!
Show me one FACT that makes your religion valid in reality and "truth"....just ONE.....you can't

i don't think that anyone is counting but i don't think it matters. you should believe what suits you and learn more about it. did you do the same thing as those who grew up in religious homes to become those who grew up in atheistic homes and became relgious? both are simply a form of rebellion. if you really believe though, that's wonderful.

Well, i dont think there are any statistics that show this answer, but being that a third of the world's population is Christian, i think we probably out number any other cult or sect with our faith in Jesus.
