I'm 19 with flat feet, and about a month and a half ago, I noticed that after about 25 minutes of walking, the middle of my feet start aching and does not go away until i sit down. This also causes my ankles to hurt as well. I've never had feet problems before? I'm thinking it might have something to do with the calf raise (aka toe raise) exercise? Because I started doing those a couple months ago. And, I'm far from overweight. Does anybody know what the problem could be and what should I do???

Also, the aching happens no matter what type of shoe i wear. (flip flops, sneakers, etc.)

It could be from the calf raise exercise, which is straining the muscles of the foot. It could also be a problem with your arch. You probably should start by easing off the exercise for a bit and seeing a podiatrist. I have flat feet, flat enough to leave a full footprint, and I have no problems unless the shoe I wear has a heel higher than about 2 inches, or has arch supports. I don't have fallen arches that need support, I have no arch to speak of and never had one to fall. If you are truly flat footed, arch supports will hurt and be uncomfortable. You can put the gel inserts in the shoes to pad them a little, which makes standing and walking more comfortable for everyone, no just flat foots like us. When you do your exercises, don't point the toe so you make a straight line with the foot by over flexing the sole of your foot. point only until you feel the pull on the calf muscle and stop. Don't tense your foot at all. The minute you feel the muscles in the foot hollar, back off a bit. I do calf stretches this way, and have no problems. If I try to do it to create a straight line from toe to ankle, then yes- my sole hurts afterwards too. If this doesn't help you ease your discomfort, then you really need to see the podiatrist for a professional exam and opinion.

If you have flat feet you need to wear shoes with good arch support in them. Without good arch support you will feel the pain in your feet and ankles etc. You may want to consider seeing a pedorthist ?sp to get fitted for arch supports. If you are not wearing good shoes with good support though that is the first thing you need to do. That means visiting a good shoe store for a good pair of shoes. Yes it will cost you some money but the relief your feet feel will be worth it.

I suffer with you with flat feet. I have found the best way to eliminate strain on our feet is to find a good pair of shoes that do not have a high arch in the insole. I find that New Balance brand shoes accomodate our problem well. Take it easy for a few days, see if the pain eases, and look for a good, flat-soled shoe.

I knew someone with flat feet and the same used to happen to him. There is no real way to get around it, just ways to make your feet feel better. He used a glass pop bottle. like from the olden days. And he would sit on a chair, lay the bottle down on its side and put his foot on it and move his foot back and forth in a rolling motion. It was like a massage. You can get those bottles at Mexican grocery stores or taco joints.(in case you didn't know)

You need orthotics. They are foot supports that are molded for your foot by a podiatrist. Both my son and husband have flat feet and these things are a godsend!
