You know: an A on your final exam, a nice house with a manageable mortgage, death to your enemies, you in heaven watching your neighbors do the sizzle-and-pop in hell, all the good stuff. Just imagine all the things that a god might want, and then try to calculate the odds that He / She / It would want the same things you want. Boggles the mind, it does...

Hmm. So if I say things like "god hates f*gs" or "god told me that invading - insert name of country - was the right thing to do," than that would be false idols as well. I've heard some rather prominent persons say such things, and I haven't heard them being taken to task for it. Why not?

You know you've made up your god when he/she/it hates the same people you do.
Or in this case, wants the same things you do.

You have just fashioned an idol of God.
Many non-believers refuse to turn to Christ because they "make" their own personal idol of what they want God to be.
If you say,"God should love everybody"-you are guilty of false idols.
If you say,"a loving God would stop sin in this world"-you are guilty of false idols.
God Bless

God does'nt want the same things that we want, God wants us to obey his will, and he will give us the desire of our hearts, He would like for us all to accept his son Jesus Christ as our saviour and to believe that he died for our sins, and repent from our ways, so that we would not perish, now if this is what you want then you and God (Who is a Spirit and we must worship him in Truth and in Spirit, this is his Will, is this want you want, if so then you are obeying his will. Should you study the bible Jesus will show you the way.

actually that's not necessarily true and your statement does not apply to all situations.
ie. you want to fornicate: the Christian concept of God obviously would not want you to fornicate
you want to become a mean lawyer: but God "called" you to become a nun.
You cannot make such statements unless you actually have a heavenly list from God of all his wants for his people.....in that case, please share. I'd be curious what he so-called wants for me.
But then again, the Christian concept of God, from my knowledge does not have a human desre for anything. If he already knows everything and is omnipotent, wouldnt' it be completely unnecessary for Him to want a single thing?

Oooooh ... I wonder if someone's being ironic.
It's alright to ask. You just need ot be open to him saying "no".
If a certain desire is in your heart, the best thing you can do is ask God for it, but with an open heart. So he can sometimes even take the desire away, and make you happy with something else.

What is your point? That this is what people believe? If so who? I don't get it. I mean obviously there is a note of sarcasm here, which I enjoy, but I don't understand what is being parodied.

God wants you to want the same things that you know are for your good or someone else's good. Not things that would cause you "PERSONAL" happiness, only.
