An athiest is someone that does not believe that God exists. Theist=faith or belief in God, the a in front of it means they don't.

It means someone that doesn't believe in any god (not limited to the Christian god). NOT someone that doesn't believe in anything at all, contrary to some very uneducated guesses.

I like to think that it means "one who does not subscribe to any of the currently popular ultimate truths". In as much as I was not around to see how everything came into being (and neither were you),I say, "I don't know ..... YET!" To assume that some god, my less than intellectual ancestors made up, instantaneously farted the universe into being, is absurd

"Strong atheism" is the belief that God does not exist.
"Weak atheism" is the lack of belief in God, without explicitly stating that God does not exist.
