A better worded question might be: Why do so many people believe that abortion is an acceptable form of birth control?

Those few words are implying a LOT! I believe wholeheartedly in birth control. However I also believe in abortion under extreme circumstances. I also happened to think that you or our government shouldn't get to say what happens to my body. Why do you think that women believe in abortion and not birth control. All pregnancies that are ending are not because of lack of birth control. Very few I'll admit, are performed because of health reasons, rape and incest. THESE are the times when I completely support abortion. Under any other circumstances, I take no stance, because, it is not my body, and I won't have to answer for it in the end. I actually have never met ANYONE who believes in abortion and not birth control, if you have, I'd like to meet them.

Women do believe in birth control. And some of us believe that there should be a safety net for when birth control methods fail.

What a judgemental and mean spirited thing to suggest. I think most women believe in birth control and no one wants to have an abortion. I think if you are interested in helping out you should do something to promote comprehensive sex education which is being undermined by the current administration in favor of abstinence only education. In third world countries where programs are being affected now by these programs HIV rates have increased in the past few years. Every day over 30,0000 children in the world die from preventable disease and hunger. Women in these countries don't have easy access to birth control. In fact, in this country Bush just appointed a man who think birth control is demeaning to women to control of family planning funding. Abortion rates are lowest in countries with most comprehensive and honest sex education coupled with easy access to birth control and reproductive health care.

Maybe they are just to short sighted about it until after it is too late. Abortion should be free on demand and birth control should be totally available to lessen the need for abortion.

Some women believe in the right to choose for oneself. Those who don't believe in the right to choose for oneself have probably never been allowed to think for oneself. If you do not believe in abortion, then don't have one. It is as simple as that.
And your question is generalized. Men don't have to believe in abortion because they will never be faced with having to make that choice.

Well, from some Christian perspectives....
you're not supposed to be screwing around in the first place, thus no pregnancy (or potential diseases) Wait till you're married. Then start the birth control if you don't want kids.

*Awfully* broad generalization, that one.
This woman believes in a woman's right to choose:
To choose to abstain from sex.
To choose to take the pill, get an IUD, or use a diaphragm.
To choose to insist her partner use a condom.
To choose to give her unplanned child to a family desperately wishing for one.
To choose to re-evaluate her life and find a place for a baby in it, despite apparent obstacles.
I do not wish to impose my choices on anyone else, nor do I want anyone to impose their choices on me. Abortion should be safe and legal -- and *extremely* rare.

Women who believe in any of those are obviously pretty dumb. How about (here's a genius idea!!), get married and start a family!!! Jeez, what an idea, 'czu we weren't all babies right???? Use your brains people, why would God want us to get pregant then, kill that poor baby, or prevent that baby from being able to ever be born in any way!!! Think about it!
