Gingerbread houses are all up to the imagination!!
Use a cake stand as a base...or cardboard...or a platter.
Use grahm crackers as the sides of the house or design one first out of cardboard and use the cardboard pieces to cut the gingerbread dough. Use royal icing to hold the sides together...you can find a simple recipe online.
Try using non-perils or ony disk shaped candy as roof tiles. Use hard candy as stained glass. Use coconut flakes as snow. Use starbursts as gifts. The possibilities are endless!!

I just cover a piece of cardboard with foil and use that as a base. Skittles work well. Gum drops. Sticks of Big Red gum can be cut into "bricks." The only limitation is your imagination.

first, you need to find a recipe for gingerbread dough. i would suggest epicurious.com. then find yourself a pattern online or, make one up yourself(such as a church, house, train etc.). then roll out your dough to about a 1/4" thick and cut out your patterns and then bake them at 350F for about 10 mins. it should be done when the edges get nice and brown. next you need to assemble it. i suggest royal frosting, which consists of eggwhites and powdered sugar. mix these together until very thick and then be very careful because it will dry out very fast. good luck.
