The concept of original sin was created by St. Augustine. Prior to Augustine, original sin referred only to that of Adam and (especially) Eve. However, St. Augustine interpreted this concept to apply to all humanity. Basically, he said that all people are born with original sin, which is cleansed with baptism. He also believed that unbaptized babies would go to hell, but this was later rejected.
It's important to realize that the concept of original sin as commonly understood in Western Christianity is doctrinal, not scriptural. For one, St. Augustine was originally a Manichaean, which was a "heretical" Christian sect, which emphasized the darkness or evil of the human body. (This also made Augustine a woman-hater, out of the Manichaean belief that, because women give birth, they trap the goodness (light) of the soul/spirit into the evil (darkness) of the soul.)

Original sin had nothing to do with Eve. Adam represented the race. When he sinned, he made the race responsible. That is why Jesus was called the second Adam. He came and took on the sin of the world and died that we might be saved.

The Catholic Church used to say the original sin wasn't eating the fruit it was sex. But since God told them to multiply and fill the earth and there is only one way to do that. They later said that the original sin was disobedience to God. Or else the other religions did. Anyway, it was a matter of Eve wanting to be all knowing and not needing God or Adam to tell her what to do.
Satan deceived her into thinking she would come out of it better off. Says he deceived her and he became the first liar.
the first angel to fall from grace. Sin was introduced not only into the world but into the Universe.

In Christian thought, Original Sin is the effect of Adam and Eve disobeying God in the Garden of Eden. Original Sin holds that because the first humans sinned, all humans are inclined towards sin and a lack of holiness. That's the best definition I can give you.

The first sin isn't Eve eating the apple as everyone thinks,
Because in a few verses after that incident it state "And Eve gave some to Adam who was with her and he ate to."
Now the significance of that is that it was Adam's job to cover and protect his wife as a husband and yet he stood by cowardly and let Eve get seduced by satan into believing a lie.

The sin of Eve and then Adam disobeying God when he told them not to eat of the tree of knowledge.Because of their disobediance all mankind are born with the the knowledge of good and bad and have a desire to do what we shouldn`t.That is why we have to be washed in the blood of the lamb to be cleasened of this born trait to do wrong. But remember even when we`re saved we can return to our sinful ways and back slide. We have to strive daily to do good untill we meet with the Father
