Yes indeed dogs are a natural pack animal. Just like a wolf is. They are all decended from wolves and have the exact same pack instincts as a wolf. Thats why there has to be an (ALPHA) and an (OMEGA) member of the pack. A dogs whole living and developmental stucture is bases on it. It was said earlier by someone that because some dogs are sometimes owned by an individual person that this is not considered a pack in the eyes of the dog. Sorry but this is FALSE. It only takes 2 to make a pack in the dogs mind. Even with a stray dog. Thats why usually when you see a stray dog you see more than 1. What these dogs have done is they have teamed up in a sence of the word to form a pack structure. One of the main reasons for this is because they are primarily a preditory animal and they instinctively know that they are much more succesfull as a pack than on their own. It's no different when they look at us. They see us as pack members because they know the pack stucture is a safe and far more succesfull place to be. Your familly dog really doesn't see you and your family dog as other dogs or as humans. Or even as bigger dogs with the ability to talk. They simply see us as pack members. Nothing more. Dogs even though may recognize words you may say ; i,e their name, sit, stay, laydown. What they are really recognizing is not the word itself but the sound that it makes. Dogs recognize sound, tone, smells. Good example is when you see your dog jump up in the window when you pull up the driveway in the car. They recognize the sound of the car first. That's what gets their attention and when they see you get out they know that Mom/Dads home. The pack instinct in a dog is a pretty simple concept once you learn to understand it. People speak about their dogs suffering from axiety when the dog is left alone. Reason for this is again pack instinct in the dogs mind. They feel much more secure and safe when they are with their pack. That is why your dog follows you around the house no matter what. Your dog can be dead asleep but if you get up and go to the restroom or to the kitchen they will intantly wake up and follow you. Some people will say that it is because your dog loves you. Of course they do. They love their pack and they instinctively want to be where ever their pack is.

Most dogs love their masters. As part of their pack? I think this is a poor comment because dogs are not in packs today. Most are individually owned or several are owned by a family and this is not considered a pack. Dogs don't think the same way as humans. I don't think they think of us as bigger dogs that can talk. Dogs value us and love us. They love us because we take care of them, play with them and make them obey us.

Part of the pack, and hopefully they see us as the alpha. If not you end up with confused dogs, no one for them to follow, no one to lead them.

Part of the pack. They look to you to be the leader as you are the provider and the disciplinarian. I don't think they can actually intellectualize that we are "human."

Probably the same as babies think of us. Meaning I have no idea. I do know that their behaviour mirrors our feelings and fears. They listen to us when we make them, they use us when we let them.
