Because we have many politicians who are okay with murdering unborn children, and some are catholic aren't they? If so, what does the catholic church say about these people?

+ Consistent Ethic of Live +

The Catholic Church is pro-life in the widest sense. This is often called a "Consistent Ethic of Life."

This pro-life stance stresses the highest regard for dignity of human life including that of:
- All people in objecting to unjust war and nuclear arms.
- The unborn in objecting to to abortion, in fitro fertilization, frozen embryos, embryonic stem cell research, and cloning
- The elderly, sick and dying in objecting to assisted suicide and euthanazia
- Prisoners in objecting to the death penalty
- The poor and minorities in supporting social justice issues.

+ Politicians +

Some "Catholic" politicians run on platforms that contradict these ideals. The Church states that these people are sinning and even worse are encouraging others to sin and therefore they are asked not to receive the Eucharist (Holy Communion) until they repent.

Politically supporting abortion is not a offense for which one can be excommunicated.

The Church law involved is Canon 915: Those who are excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' statement "Catholics in Political Life" says:

Therefore, like every Catholic generation before us, we must be guided by the words of St. Paul, “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the Body and Blood of the Lord” (1 Cor 11:27).

And continues that it is up to each Bishop in their diocese and on a case by case basis to decide whether or not to deny Holy Communion to Catholic politicians because of their public support of abortion.

Believe it or not not all catholics agree with every thing the Church says. It is said that some catholics have minds of their own and can think independently of the Church.

I cannot speak for the Catholic church. But it is my understanding that the church is pro-life. Not all who associate themselves with the Catholic church adhere to every position of the church. Name a human institution and I believe I can find dissenting members in that institution.

All Catholics are supposed to be pro-life but there are some who are not. The Church takes this issue very seriously and while they will not tell people who to vote for they will remind people to take this issue into consideration when they vote.
