ah this kind of rumbeling sound ?
i think with moving this muscle you change the shape of your inner ear a little and you probably hear your blood stream inside your blood vessels, for pressing tissue against essential parts.
since the ear is very sensitive for the weak vibrations in the air i would think this vibration is strong enough to catch your attention

What you could be doing is altering the size of your ear canal, and causing the eardrum to tighten and therefore be more sensitive to sound vibrations that normally would not register with you.

You hear through vibrations in your ear hairs. So when you move your finger around your ear it contracts the hair folacles (like goose bumps).
