He is eating, drinking, pooping and peeing but he is being very lethargic. He's not even harassing the kitty or getting up when he hears plates going into the dishwasher. He's going off to lay down and not laying in his usual places. I find him in the back of the house and when I ask him what's wrong he just acts sheepish. What is going on? I am calling the vet in the AM if he's not better but any ideas?

well my dog is like that too when she's sick. He could have a flu or a fever and might need antibiotics.
Check the color of the gums. It should not be pale.
Definitely, being lethargic is a sign of sickness if the dog is usually active.

Take him to the vet.

That does sound odd. A sudden change in behavior like that can mean any number of things: something's wrong with his tummy, he may have been poisoned, there's something in the house that's irritating him, or he has allergies that are making him feel bad. Or he needs to have bloodwork done to test for hypothyroidism. Or he's passing a kindey stone. Whichever it is, I also recommend that you get him to a vet asap. Very important to find out what the trouble is right away!

Take his temperature and check vitals..this will be more informative to the vet...I would call your vet now if they have after hrs to get some advice. Does he have diahrrea? Is the color of his urine normal? Check his gums color. Is his nose dry and warm? Alot of this can tell you the severity of his illness. How old is your dog?
