Mechanical weathering occurs through freezing/thawing, plant roots that grow in cracks, gravity-related processes such as rolling and toppling, stream-driven rounding of rocks when the rocks bang together during high flows, sand blasting from wind-driven sand . . . there's probably many more, but it's all i can think of.
