I've got 2 Windows XP computers, and from time to time I come across images from webpages that will not open. I don't know what to change in Internet options to open the images. Do I need a plug-in to handle these images? They appear as small red boxes with x's through them.

Not showing images is not likely the fault of a browser in my opinon. there may be something else like error on the site itself or some firewall /adblocker etc in the computer stopping them. If you have another browser or you have access to other computer, you can try those sites to double check if the problem in your pc or the site.

Can you right click and save those images and check whats format they are?

Try resetting your websetting. Go to tools>internet options>advanced>restore to defaults. Set all other options to defaults. Restart IE and see if any change.

As a side note, I recommend update to IE7 for better security. Also, The best alternative browser is Opera(www.opera.com). But I must tell you that i don't think its the browser that causing the image display problem.

Good day. Internet Explorer 7 is out so u can try that. I understand IE7 Has bugs tho. A good alternative is mozilla Firefox. Great reviews and ratings. It is good to have a 2nd browser in case Internet explorer screws up for some reason. Laterz.
