There was no year zero. The year that this Jesus was born in is numbered 1, whatever the month he was born in.
So 1 A.D. is the year that he was born in, and 1 B.C. is the year before the one he was born in.
No year 0.

1 B C means one year before the birth of Christ. A D means in the year of our Lord (Jesus Christ) therefore any year after his birth.

cpswazland believes it's "before written history"...
You have to be kidding....
1 BC basically indicates "Before Christ" (REMEMBER Christ is NOT a last name....yes there are idiots who think so).
A.D. Stands for Anno Domino, which is Latin for "in the year of our Lord"
Political correctness would indicate that you should use B.C.E instead of B.C. B.C.E is Before Common Era. and instead of A.D. You should use C.E. Common Era.
Strangely though....BCE and CE years match up with BC and AD...Hmmmmm

I know this one for sure. 1 AD is the year he was born. Therefore, 1 BC is the year before he was born.

100BC=100years before the birth of Christ.
1BC=1year
1AD=1year after the crucifixtion
There is an indefinate period of time (30-35 odd years) between BC and AD
