I personally believe that some people are better at shaking thinks off, not letting things affect them emotionally or mentally. There are people who are extremely sensitive and others that don't seem to have a sensitive bone in their body. Great if you can pull yourself out of a depression, that seemingly snuck up on you, all by yourself, good for you. But I personally think that a person that seeks help when they realize they need help - to me it shows strength, not weakness. It's a difficult think to s
do. And I think it's a good thing, not a bad thing. What do you think of a father who tells his daughter that she is weak if she wants to quit smoking, she has been smoking for over 30yrs. and says she needs help and want to be hypnotized to see if that works, and he tells her she is weak cause all she has to do is decide not to smoke anymore and just stop

Statistics show that 50-75% of the people who have NEVER had any type of therapy in life are worse off than those who have..with that said..I say forget what your dad said..you are an adult..I don't know much about hypnotherapy..my mom tried it and it didn't work but who is to say it doesn't..If it helps you live a full, long and healthy life, screw your dad (not literally lol)

I agree with everything you said. A person is weak when they need help but are afraid to take the plunge. Therapy isn't an easy process, it involves confronting thing in life that some people would rather not think about. These people wallow in their own self pity, and make life difficult for those around them. When it comes to quitting smoking, I say if it works for you then go with the hypnotherapy. If it helps, let me know. I might try it myself.

We all are "weak" at some points in our life. A strong person knows that it is ok to ask for help and goes to get it from friends, family, and when necessary ... a professional.

We go to a doctor if we get the flu, because he/she is trained to help with that kind of problem.

So why not go to a shrink when we are having problems with our mental (thought) life?

I read some research articles several years ago that said most people studied did just as well or better if they just had someone to talk to when they had problems, without seeing a professional.

Unfortunately, many people don't have someone they trust to talk to when the stress is on. And some people with serious mental health problems tend to have behavioral problems that drive others away, so it's hard for them to make friends. They need someone to talk to who knows how to help them.

Best Wishes,

Sue

Unfortunately it is this misconception that prevents a lot of people from seeking help. I personally see it as a strength. I think it takes a strong person to admit when they need help and i wish more people did it. That is what therapists are there for. I think everyone would be better off having an objective sounding board in general. It also is a sign of strength to be able to tune out all those people who tell you you are weak. I would shake off their comments and feel somewhat sorry for them.

Good luck to you.

I agree with you that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It's not easy to take that step, seeking professional help for a mental problem.

People who say it's a weakness to admit you have a problem and seek help for it are simply ignorant. Of course it's great if people can solve things on their own without help, but not everybody can do that and not all problems can be solved that way either. Doing nothing about a problem is a sign of weakness, but seeking help if necessary is a sign of strength.

Smoking is a habit people get very used to. To just quit is hard. You must come off it slowly and replace the need to smoke with sugarless gum or water when you feel the need to smoke. I do not think people stop anything without wanting to do it.
i want to lose weight but eventhough I buy the equipment and have it in my house I just don;t use it enough to lose any weight. Icannot say that I don;t want to lose weight,i do, but I just can't get into 30 minutes of exercise. maybe we should work on ourselves more and condition ourselves to do what we need to do .

Anyone who tells a person they are weak for ANYTHING is projecting their own fears on to them and usually, are to weak themselves to deal with issues inside.

You can't "shake" things off when it's a chemical imbalance, anymore than someone could shake off cancer.

if it helps them deal with their problems, then no one should judge them for what theyre doing. its quite brave to go to someone and ask for help, let alone go to a professional. i think its great!
