I have to have it next week, and I am pretty scared. I am not getting a crown, I am still getting fillings, they are just cutting my gumes and pulling them down. It is going to drive me to drink.lol

KATIE,
THIS PROCEDURE IS NO BIG DEAL. THE GUMS ARE "LENGTHENED" BY THIS PROCEDURE. IT IS ALL DONE UNDER LOCAL ANESTHETIC. I'VE DONE SEVERAL OF THESE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. GOOD LUCK!

Crown lengthening isn't making your gums longer, but rather exposing more tooth surface. The surgical procedure removes the uppermost part of the gums, making the teeth look longer (thus the "crown lengthening" name). I had the procedure done a few years back, and it was really no big deal. My mouth was a little tender for a few days, but it was nothing a few ibuprofen couldn't take care of. Good Luck!!

You are perhaps getting the (real tooth) crown lengthening procedure for cosmetic reasons, to address your gummy smile, as you say that it is not for the (fake tooth/cover) crown. It is no biggi, and if you still have any scare of it then the expensive option would be painless and nearly bloodless laser gum surgery.
