Yes. "Generally" a cubit is 18 inches. It is actually the distance from the back of the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. The Egyptian cubit was about 20 inches. It will vary depending on the size of the person. However, 18 inches is considered a standard (somewhat). From that many think Goliath was 9 feet 9 inches-that is 6 cubits and a span (1/2).
There have been human skeletons found in excess of 13 feet. Some scholars actually think that pre-flood man was about 15 feet tall. This is of course speculation. But there are many very large human remains around.

A cubit was the length of a man's arm from the point of his elbow to the end of his middle finger. It averaged to about 18 inches long.
A span was the measurement of the space between the thumb and the little finger, when the hand was extended. It averaged out to about 9 inches. A span was half a cubit.
Using these measurements, Goliath would have been about 9 feet, 9 inches tall. Not the tallest guy in the world, but still pretty big, especially for someone coming from the Middle East.

A cubit is about 18 inches, and, in Biblical times, it was the length of one arm.
The Bible says that Goliath was "six cubits and a span" (I Samuel 17:4), so you can just do the math. 18 inches times six equals 108 inches. A span is about half a cubit, which is nine inches. So Goliath was 9 feet, 9 inches tall.

Various sources list a cubit as anywhere from 18 inches to 21 inches and a span as about 9 inches. Therefore, Goliath would have been anywhere from 9 ft. 9 in. to 11 ft. 3 in. tall (six cubits and a span.)

You know, that's a good question. And don't pay any attention to the jerk who answered before me. That's the purpose of Yahoo Answers. To ask questions and give and receive answers. Years ago I seem to recall a cubit was thought to be 18 inches, but I'm not sure. I also read several accounts of the David and Goliath story in which it was believed that Goliath measured in at a whopping 9 feet tall. Easily making him the tallest individual in world history.

A Cubit was from elbow to the tip of the middle finger - I do believe. The others, I am not certain about. I think that Goliath was six feet or perhaps seven - people were shorter in those days.

Cubit is the name for any one of many units of measure used by various ancient peoples and is among the first recorded units of length. The natural cubit is based on the distance between thumb and another finger to the elbow on an average person. It was employed consistently for measuring products like cords and textiles through the Middle-Ages up to the Early Modern Times. The natural cubit measures 24 digits or 6 palms. This is about 45 cm or 18 inches (1.50 ft).

A span was 3 hand breadths, or 8.745 inches. In the OT a cubit was 2 spans or 17.49 inches. Thus Goliath was about 9.5 feet tall. 6 cubits times 17.49 inches plus 8.745 inches is about 113 inches or 9.5 feet

Goliath would have been about 9 or 10 ft tall about like Andre the Giant sort of.
You can check with the Strongs bible for the exact measurement of inches to cubic feet.

A cubit is from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger, which is approx. 18 inches. A span is from the tip of your thumb to the tip of your little finger when your hand is spread out.
