both. think deeply. life is made of physical and spiritual. the cell is the physical and God is the spiritual. who creates the cell - the maker is God. and we can see that as we live we realize we have a soul. our conscience our thinking, our creative thought suggest so. so lets not confuse the issues.

It really doens't make any difference, does it. Most scientists believe life is defined as something that can reproduce itself, at the cellular level. So a cell that can divide into two, is consider living. But in a way viruses are at times considered as living. by itself and divided into its two main parts, it can do nothing. if the two main parts are put together AND it can invade a proper cell, it can command the cell to replicate the virus. "soul" and "god" cannot be measured. Those are taken as items of 'faith', (by definition not open to proof) and are therefore outside the area of science. Science and Religion, really don't mix well in areas of proof and faith, sorry.

Life has many definitions depending on its context like most words. Life as the esscence of being is easily understood as that light in the eye of the person that leaves them when they die. For example you are talking to a person one moment and the next they get hit by a car and are laying on the ground, lifeless, breathless, dim-eyed, with no words left to say to you. Their billions of cells are still there, for a while many of them still working and acting as living cells for a time after the "life" has left the victim of the car accident. I have experienced this, and when you do you know what "life" is -- that physical body of cells was but a temple or housing for what I knew and loved about that person, the actual life force that was a part of this world and a part of me -- that part never dies, the cells rot in the grave.

That question depends on whether you are ready to receive the truth or will continue to come up with your own philosophy.
Human life begins at conception. A living thing, a human being in this case, moves and has a presence no matter how big or small they are. When sperm enters an egg a reaction takes place that causes the two to become one living human being. When that happens, the one being formed immediately starts to grow and sets out to become the full representation of who they will be. That is human life fundamentally, having flesh and a soul and yet not complete.
The fullness of life can’t be realized without an encounter with the One who places His Spirit within. Genesis 2:7"And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul". PAUSE: What is the opposite of a living soul? You see, in the womb when we are formed (in darkness as dust of the ground), it is God’s will to breathe life into us and give us His Spirit so that we can get to know Him. Time and time again God offers Himself through His love for us in order to draw us close to Him so that He can breathe life into us. However, just as what eventually happened in the Garden of Eden, we either believe the lie of someone else’s perception of life (Eve in the Garden) and/or think that what we devise will be just as good if not better (Adam’s reaction). Many reject God’s breath of life, His truth, His love, and His will. This is why there is so much death in the world. When people reject God’s will, which is life beyond mere human existence, they tend to depend upon their own understanding of what life is and usually just end up walking, talking, moving, having a presence but never really living! To prove it ask yourself why are there so many depressed, disturbed, and unhappy rich and beautiful people in the word? Aren't they "living?" The answer: they don’t believe they need God or His breath of life to have fullness of life. However, as the Beatles put it “Money can’t buy you love” which is the basis for all life and what God longs to give us.
So to sum it all up, human life begins at conception but real life doesn’t begin until we receive THE BREATH OF LIFE from God!
PS: xxangelchicxx2000, go on and study biology just don't ever reject God's truth for mans fallible and many times false philosophies, theories, or hypothesis. As for science and scientific facts, it is ok to learn about our world and ourselves at the scientific level. Just don’t ever forget who created the science of all things to begin with. Remind yourself every time you look through a telescope at some small microbe or maybe even the galaxy around us that God created it and knew of it first! If you look at science that way it will make you appreciate the awesome wonder that God truly is. God Bless you on your journey!

i believe we are created by God. I mean seriously, Atheism (no offense)? The Big Bang does not create organization like our perfect universe today, it creates "disorder". But how crazy must you be to think that the universe came from nothing and that a loving, seeing, feeling human comes from particles in space (oops, i meant apes that evolved into humans). And how could particles put together a body that heals itself and reproduces in order to sustain life? God bless you, Val
*sorry, i was just relieving some major stress...once again atheists, no offense is intended*

Life is a temporary assignment.
a cell is a living thing. kinda like a small room. holding our Spirit prisoner.
The souls of people are the thoughts of God.

Interesting if a cell is life then abortion is murder (the taking of a life). I think all creatures have life but only humans have souls and that's why we are so unique on this planet.

Understand the true meaning and purport of the "meaning of life" and what life has in store for you can be configured-
"What is Life" is the most asked question on the Internet. Why?
Every Human Being wants to know and understand the Philosophy behind the meaning of Life! Why are we here... what is the purpose of our living on Mother Earth... what is the real meaning of Life? The queries are numerous... there has got to be a justification for our living. What is the basis of existence of Life on planet Earth?
Before we indulge into knowing "the meaning of Life" we need to understand Life itself. How do we differentiate between a mortal (living being) and an immobile material (having no Life within)? For this we need to start from the beginning of the Cosmos itself... The time of the big bang!
At the time of the big bang when God, the Almighty Creator which is but the size of half a thumb explodes itself... all Atmans (Souls) get scattered all over the cosmos and in doing this they lose their pristine purity and as a ball coated with honey gathers dust while rolling... these Atmans (Souls) also get impregnated with impurities. This is the fundamental cause of Life... if these Atmans (Souls) had remained pure all the time... the need for Life in whole of the cosmos would not have arisen.
These Atmans (Souls) in their cosmic journey now need a body so that they can purify themselves and come back to their original pristine form. These Atmans (Souls) do not have the power to purify themselves without the aid of any external body. They need a body to work out its Karma and in the process the dross within the Atman soul shall get removed.
Let me explain this further but before that I need to explain the definition of God.
At the time of pralaya as we call it in Hinduism (the time of complete dissolution of the cosmos)... the total cosmos which consists of many universes dissolves back into its original pristine form... this is the form we know as God, the Almighty Creator! The size of the whole cosmos at this moment of time is half the size of a thumb, which is nothing else, but the collection of all purified Atmans (Souls) in the cosmos.
For purifying themselves why do the Atmans (Souls) need a body? This feature can be explained further by the example of mining.
If I need to extract one KG of pure gold (say an individual purified Atman in its pristine pure form) from a lump of hundred KG of gold ore then I need to pass the lump of hundred KG of gold ore through the requisite mining process. It is absolutely clear that this one KG of pure gold can not on its own separate itself out from the hundred KG of gold ore without the help of an external medium... it needs requisite machinery to remove the 99 KG of dross within the ore.
Similarly, the unpurified Atman the soul within cannot on its own remove the dross within... it needs an external medium... a body in order to come back to its original pristine form. And in the process... this so-called impure Atman is required to manifest a body, which consists of a long chain of manifestations... a total of 8.4 Million manifestations and a Life cycle of 96.4 Million earthly years... a long journey indeed! This is a ridiculous question because you are simply waiting for people to answer and then for you to have some judgement on their answers, as though You are knowlegeable in this respect. If you want to have an abortion, it's legal...go do it and leave us alone!

There is no soul or god. Even if there were, would that mean that my dog isn't alive?
Biologists have the upper hand on defining life, I'll go with them.
