I did everything myself in 6 months. You have plenty of time, but book the ceremony and reception venues first! Then the dress, flowers, etc...Dress can take awhile if it's designer. Alterations, etc take awhile too. theknot.com is good, but I pooled my friends resources and saved a fortune and got everything I wanted, too. You'll be fine. Just remember, it is an important day, but it is just one day. Worry more about your life after the day rather than up until that day. If you need money saving advice, email me.

First decide what season in 2008 you are looking at. Then decide what kind of wedding you want. Do you want the ceremony in a church, chapel, outside...? Also what size reception? Find the site for the ceremony and the reception and find a date that you can use at both places. That is wehre I would start.

After that comes all the fun details. Have fun planning. My wedding is 2/24/2007 and I am going to be sad when it is over. Planning is so much fun. Don't let it stress you out! Have fun with every step!

Here are some planners that I have been working with.

CONGRATS!!!! How exciting! The first thing you want to do (and is the most important) is to sit down with your fiance and both sets of parents and figure out a budget and who is paying for what...if it is just you and your finace, then you both have to make some serious decisions as to how much money you are willing to spend on everything. AND, no matter what, stick to the budget!!!!! As a wedding planner, I can't tell you how many couples I have come across who haven't stuck to their budget and big problems came up.

After the budget is done, then you can get to the fun stuff!! The ceremony and reception locations should be next, though, as they fill rather quickly sometimes (depending on where you're looking at). Then interview and select your caterer, baker, florist, entertainment and photographer. Make sure you are up front with them about your budget...if they hesitate and pressure you into paying more than you are comfortable with...don't use them!!

If you are unsure about anything or are hesitating about details and/or larger issues...hire a wedding planner!!! Most of the time brides think they don't need a planner and before they know it the details aren't done and it is too late to hire someone. If you hire ahead of time, then there will be no question of who will be doing what.

honestly you should call the hall you want and see how far in advance they are booked, and how far in advance they book. If your planning a 2008 wedding you have some time as far as the rings and dresses and tuxes...also if your having your flowers custom done do so about a year in advance. If you plan on having a wedding in the church you need to contact the pastor and see what their requirements are....they may require you to do marriage counceling first. Dont get the license until about a week before the wedding. I hope all this helps....good luck on your marriage and remember the marriage is more important than the wedding.

God bless!!!

First figure when u want to get married summer fall ec then contact who is going to preform your your wedding ie is the church going to be free that day some reqire 6 months to a year in advance. . then start looking at diffrent places to hold the reception spots. remember halls get booked up fast so 3 4 months in advance is a good rule of thumb an figure how many will be attending dont want to get a hall for 100 an u plan on 250 people .... most in that time look for dresses dont buy one yet 08 is a long time away. you might loose weight gain weight or that might not be what u want in 2 years buy 6 months in advace a dress rings 8 weeks or so in advance here are some good sites http://www.weddingsolutions.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=faq

first take some time to decide what kind of wedding you want. Then pick a few venues and start making calls. Some are booked years in advance, however you can get lucky. I was about to get the best place in town for a wedding that was only 5 months away. They experience cancellations.

Piece of cake if you hire a wedding planner now.

If you don't want to work with a planner - start searching the net, most wedding sites have a wedding planner you can down load. Work out a budget and start deciding your must haves from your nice to haves. Get you friends and family to help by delegating as much as possible to people you trust. And remember to always think that if something goes wrong it will make the special day memorable - don't worry and don't watch Bridezilla!

I'd start with a date, this is after you have the engagement ring. Once you pick the date you can better find a dress--summer/ winter/ strapless..that type thing. I think it's generally "tradition" to book the reception hall a year before, but I'm not really sure I got married 13 years ago. Sorry I couldn't help more

There are several websites that can help you with checklists, month by month planning, etc.

The KNOT is a good one.

There is also software that you can get (freeware)

Or if you like books, get a wedding planning book...with spots to write all your details down.

If you can you should try to get a Wedding Planner to help out. You should first start out with the date, then where you want to have the wedding at and the reception then go down to who you want there and colors and dresses and such. Hope this helps.
