I have used hydrocodone for roughly one month for sciatica relief. It works very well but I have concerns due the dependency and addiction risks. Does anyone have similar experiences or medicinal alternatives to hydrocodonen for sciatica relief? Thanks!!

it sounds as if amanda doesn't know her pharmacology or has an addiction problem herself. Fact opiates, when used as percribed are no more addictive than any other medication. secondly. define addiction. if it means that in order to stay pain free you take a drug, then tylenol or aspirin is addictive because if you stop taking them the pain will return. Will you prostitute yourself for another dose, very, very doubtful. Studies have been conducted by credible medical universities world-wide on this subject and have all shown the same thing, that if you use the drug as perscribed by your doctor then you will be very inlikely to become addicted. However if you chew your tablets, increase your dosage or frequency without talking to your physician first then you are breaking the law and showing addictive behaviors. Sleeping pills, ADHD medicines and stimulants are the most addictive medications right behind nicotine. Now if the hydrocodone gives you relief use it, plain and simple and like someone said earlier, if your stomach can handle it, try a Naproxen Sodium aka (Aleve) as well as the hydrocodone. Yes they can be used together because the drugs involved hydrocodone and naproxen sodium are from different drug categories which do not interact with each other. hydrocodone is an opiod ( manipulation of the codeine molecule and Naproxen Sodium (aleve) is a NSAID or anti-inflammatory. the opiod works in the brain while the NSAID work at the point of inflammation blocking the development of prostaglandins a pain causing body chemical which also causes inflammation. I hope this clears up your choice and relaxes your worries about the myth og addiction when using opiods when properly perscrbed..

Be leave it or not Aleve is the best for sciatica , I had it bad
and aleve worked the best for that. Plus the Inflammation went away . I took 2 or 3 in the morning , 2 at night every day without stop I started to decrease them in a month . About two months it went away. I always keep them on hand. Don't take narcotics.

Hydrocodone is a VERY addictive drug- so highly that it is one of the most widely-abused drugs of addiction.

Have you tried the recommended exercises and stretches to help releve the pressure on the sciatic nerve? Has there ever been talk of having the sciatica surgery?

Yellow Kay- if you are not sure what the definition of ADDICTION IS why not research it. Just like you should research how addicting pain killers are.

I have seen what an addiction to pain killers does to people. My father is addicted to them. Don't judge me- you have no idea who I am.

i would just worry about killing the pain and dont worry about getting addicted right now they have ways to get you off of that stuff and just dont take to much of it and you will be ok that stuff hurts so you gotta kill the pain there are way worse things out there that you could be taking so dont worry aboug getting addicted there is nothing else over the counter that can kill the pain and thats why they made pain meds so people dont have to be in misery i think you can do physical therapy or something though cant ya there has to be some sort of relief for that i feel for ya i have had tmj and had to take hydrocodone i had no problem stopping it guess some people do have a problem with it though i just took it till i didnt need to anymore and stopped and i took it for months

Listen to ole yellow. So right. I have severe back and leg pain. 3 injuries in a year. As long as your using the med for pain relief and not for a buzz your all good. But you don't want to stop them all at once if your taking several a day. Just take less and less each day.
