Anyone who has had a nipple piercing... is it a bad idea to get it done without numbing cream... apparently it hurts like a b****. What are your experiences?

I have horizontal and vertical nipple piercings. Just so you know, no reputable piercer uses any kind of topical or injected anesthetic. Piercings do not require such things and I can promise you that the anesthetic will cause more harm that good. Anesthetic softens muscles and tissues which can effect the outcome of the piercing. And if something happens to them which could be dangerous, you won't know until the numb feeling wears off. If you really want them done, the pain should not be a factor; the pain is a part of piercings.

Depending on skill of the piercer and the overall size of your nipple, you may not feel much or you may feel a lot. Generally smaller nipples are quicker to pierce so you feel less, obviously, larger nipples are a little bit tougher. But if you go to a reputable piercer, you won't feel much and it will be done with quickly. I felt a pinching sting when I had all of mine done and that was it.

Most of the pain I had came from the following days when my nipples were sore. It basically felt like one on-going titty-twister for about a week. You will want to be very careful with your breasts once you have the piercings. You don't realize how much they bump into day to day (seat belts, over the shoulder bags, bear hugs). However, I kept my piercings clean, took very good care of them and once the soreness went away, I had no problems what so ever.

Wear a looser fitting bra for a while (even when you sleep) and take Midol or Motrin for pain (yes, I said Midol and it works well, even for the guys). Avoid oral contact and play for the first 6 weeks and be sure to clean them if contact is made. The piercing will take a minimum of 6 months to heal, but generally takes closer to a year for most.

It depends on the person, pain-wise. I know some people who have said it barely hurt at all, for others it was HORRIBLE.

However, numbing agents arn't a good idea. Creams can only numb the outside of the skin anyway, and the nerves in the nipple are more prominent deep down. It also causes the skin to swell a little, which can mean that when the swelling from the cream goes down, the piercing can be found to have been done a little wonky.

Brave the pain, it'll be okay! Besides, it's so worth it - nipple piercings are gorgous!

I didn't think it was too bad really. I had both done at the same time, a tandem piercing. I was really really nervous about the whole thing, but it really wasn't too bad. I don't remember the pain, honestly. I had no numbing cream. I wasn't offered any. It literally takes only seconds, and you can endure any pain for a second.

Shortly after I had my nipples pierced, I had my nose done. I was asking how much it was going to hurt (because I always have to ask) and he said "honey, nothing is gonna hurt you after you've had your nipples pierced". So apparently my experience is not typical, because I really did not think it was that bad.

If you want it done, do it. Like i said, if it hurts, it's just for a second or two. I have absolutely no regrets. They're my favorite piercings. I have barbells, and have had no trouble healing them whatsoever. Just follow the soaking and cleaning instructions and you should be fine!

From what I hear it only really hurts when guys get their nipples pierced. Apparently their nipples are more sensitive than ours.
My suggestion is if you think you need numbing cream (like you can't handle a brief amount of stinging pain) then by all means go right ahead. But really its only a brief amount of stinging pain (think of getting a vacination, or something of the like), then it kind of feels "hot" for a bit, as it starts to swell.
So really its only a matter of whether you think you can handle it or not. Usually its your own adrenaline thats more disconcerting than anything else. You're so afraid of the "pain" that you anticipate it hurting a lot more than it actually does, which is why some people pass out during the piercing/tattoo process.
I suggest going without the cream. But thats just me...

I had both done at the same time a year and a half ago. VERY glad I did it, now.

Here's the ticket...put barbells in right away, not the rings. The rings would always get moved around with my bra and feel incredibly uncomfortable. I didn't fully heal until I changed to straight barbells.

They are wonderful. Create a lot of sensitivity and look amazing.

And I didn't use any numbing cream. I recommend a soft, loose fitting bra and tons of tylenol. It'll hurt (burn) for an hour or two, but it only gets better from there.

GOOD LUCK!

Hell yes it hurts! I had my right one done a few years ago, without any cream. They mark the spot where they are going to put the needle through and then they take a clamp and clamp your nipple and pull it outwards and then spear the needle through, and then thread the ring through. All up it takes around 10 seconds, if I remember correctly.

Out of all my piercings, it's the one I remember as hurting the most. But I've only had my ears and tongue done as well.

Only get it done, if you're commited to the idea!

Good luck :-)

i just got my left nipple pierced friday and yea it hurt, but i don't think it hurts as much as everybody expects it to. i've had my belly button, tragais, cartlidge, lip, and nipple pierced and the nipple was the worst...i took it out 2 days after i got it. mainly because it was pierced crooked and i had about 4 people tell me stories of nipple rings being ripped out. BUT from the people that i asked (not showed), the majority of people said that nipple piercings are sexy. I also had a boyfriend that had both nipples pierced and i loved it. soooo go for it : )

I had both mine done. Had to take em out temporarily and they closed. I pierced 'em again tho. Must not have hurt too bad since I've did it twice. It does hurt...but its tolerable. And my nipples are so much more sensitive!! But it can go the other way as well....and u lose all sensitivilty!
