For your basic polycarbonate of bisphenol A ("Lexan"): part of the monomer is a carbonate group (CO3), but there is more to it than that. I'll try it in words, but there's a link to a diagram below. Left to right:

O-(C=O)-Benzene ring-(CH3-C-CH3)-Benzene ring- (repeat).

The biggest raw material is phenol (a benzene ring with a hydroxl group in place of one of the carbon). Phenol is produced from benzene feed stock. Benzene occurs naturally in crude oil and is also produced from straight-chain hydrocarbon in the "reformer" reactors in oil refineries.
