Is tap water just as good as bottled water? Are there any germs in tap water that could eventually harm me.. or am I just being a paranoid health freak?

You aren't being a paranoid health freak! Nobody else has mentioned the tyoes of pipes the water travels through! When we moved inot our home we needed a plumber as soon as the papers were signed. He took one look at the pipes and asked when we planned on having them replaced. We didn't know anything about galvanized pipes. We thought he was just trying to jack up the bill and make a little extra work for himself on the side. We asked a buddy who is a plummer and he said get rid of those old pipes as soon as possible! We never gave our daughter water from those old pipes. And to this day tap water always tastes funny to me. I only drink, use and give my kids bottled water. Be sure to read the labels to make sure you aren't just getting bottled tap water!

Yes, sometimes there are. All large cities have a processing water plant, but best to be safe. One of our local rivers had a huge sewage dump placed in it and I really prefer bottled water now. The taste is actually fresher to me. You could always use a Brita water filter attached to your kitchen faucet. You can tell when you need to change it, because the light will change.

Have to do a taste test to make sure. Nothing wrong with preferring bottled water. Good for you.

Most bottled water is simply tap water, so you are just paying lots of money for the bottle and the name. If you worry that much about it, get a Brita or Pur filter (pitcher or the kind that goes on your faucet) and use that. Saves lots of money in the long run.

Some bottled water is same as tap water! Check the source from which it comes. It's not necessaraly mineral water.

Tap water varies from one place to another. Check with the municipality to make sure the tap water in your city is drinkable. Some places may reccomend you boil it before drinking it!

Ask for the water report from your water company. It will tell you exactly what is in your tap water.

I'd say you are paranoid, then again, I live in continental Europe and I know our tap water is drinkable, at least.

Bottled water usually tastes better, though. You should be alright using tap water for boiled usage, such as cooking and hot drinks.

Tap water is less healthy than bottled water. It depends on where you live to how unhealthy it is. Get a filter. Then you won't have any problems.
