By the fact that you continue to use their services and/or refer others to them lets them know that you appreciate them.
Sending a Thank You card is certainly something that would be welcomed by an appreciated vet.
I was actually sent a sympathy card from the crematorium upon the passing and cremation of my horse and that was really nice to know that they weren't there just for the "business" aspect of it all.
Showing your appreciation of your vet with a card would do the same.

How about a visa gift card. You perpay for it & the best part is it can be spent any place. Oh yea a card & flowers would also be nice with a note that tells your thoughts.
Sorry about your dog but it sounds like you had a great life with her.

I would get them a really nice card , or even pay for a spot in the local paper and dedicate it to their job well done. That will be something that they will love, and maybe cut out and keep to put on their wall!!!

My vet cared for my aging renal failure mutt, and my younger dog who ate the other one's (whole bottle) Rimadyl. They both would have died without my vet.
So....my dogs had pizza delivered to their clinic with a thank you card signed "Even though we hate visiting you, mom says we wouldn't be here anymore if it weren't for you. We're sorry we peed on your floor and tried to bite you. Thank you for keeping us alive. And you got mom to stop crying. Love Maverick and Bailey".

I know. My vet observed my dog, at 19yr olds, and told me what was happening. A nice, heartfelt card, and sharing how you really appreciate his wealth of knowledge.

I would make a donation to the vet - to say, thank you for your care, here's a little money to help you take care of someone else's pet who may need your loving hand.

Send them a card, a letter, some photos...anything that just tell them how thankful you are and how much you appreciate all their help. You'd be surprised how little it takes to show someone your appreciation.
