i run a bar in tenerife and a customer reckons that they where made from originally from rail road tracks can anyone help in this discussion?

NOT TRUE!!! Railroad tracks back in the 1900's would be a EXTREMELY poor type of metal, maybe even pure Iron in some cases. That would simply NOT work.

That is a total urban myth. They were finely produced and machined firearms. I have had the pleasure of shooting them in the past and they perform great.

I'm assuming you mean the 1911 made by colt.

Or do you mean the .45 colt long cartridge?

You don't mention the time period of construction. If you mean the "one-off" original, it would have been made with the steel of the day. If that means that some of the metals used were recycled into re-smelted steel I guess it could be possible but I'd want to see the original order or a cert copy.
