Mead is just fermented honey, It tastes nothing like beer but you can use hops as a preservative. You can use beer or wine yeast there is even a yeast just for making mead.As for recipes it depends on what type of mead you want to make, Just do a search for mead recipes Mead is an ancient beverage older than beer and just like beer there are lots of different ways to make it. Just keep in mind honey isn't cheap (where I live anyway $50 for enough for a five gal. batch) and you will need lots. and it takes at minimum a year to make, but if you appreciate a good homebrew it is worth the effort

I don't know about making mead, but no, it doesn't taste like beer. It tastes like sweet wine.
