Well I just thought I would tell this story as a warning.. We just put up our fake tree yesterday and my two 3 month old kittens are loving it. They love to climb up it which I thought was fine. Well today as it happens, thank god I was home at the time, my little Holly got her back leg tangled in the xmas lights and was dangling. I almost couldn't get her out she was crying so much and the lights were wrapped around her little leg like 3 times. I was so upset just thinking if nobody was home to get her out. So I am still not sure what the solution is to keeping the kittys out of the tree but beware that freaky things can happen..

Yes, icicles are a big no, no when you have cats. Some cats like to chew on the wires of the lights, so watch that. We have an artificial tree and all my cats like to do is lay underneath it and sleep. You may find ornaments on the floor from time to time, so keep your keepsake ornaments up higher in the tree so they don't' get broken. If you like a real tree and put any treatment in the water to keep the tree fresh longer, make sure the kitties cant get at the water to drink it, it may make them sick.

that's a troublesome one, i comprehend, i'm debating no remember if to submit my tree or no longer. final Christmas my 2 kittens have been basically around 10 weeks previous and that i had a man made tree. i do no longer comprehend what share circumstances we've been given residing house to discover it on the floor, and that the plastic baubles were batted around the placement. in addition they regarded intrigued at establishing all people else's provides that have been under the tree! in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, in case you do choose him/her to assessment to no longer climb the tree and he/she isn't an exterior cat, you ought to get a sprig bottle of water and provide him/her a squirt while they attempt to climb it. this could no longer be a stable thought in the event that they are an exterior cat because of the fact they could then have difficulty hiking timber, because of the full water element. it fairly is the only element i will arise with. i'm nonetheless debating, and doubtless would be good up till Christmas!!!

Yep, tinsel is dangerous for cats. If you have glass ornaments, keep them high so the cats can't get to them.

If your cats climb (contrary to popular belief, a good many are perfectly content to just sleep under it), then try hanging citrus peels on the tree (interesting ornaments, those). We have a model train that runs around the base of our tree (cats hate 'em).

Be careful when hanging tinsel or beads low enough for her to get near as she may become tangled and possibly choke. I would also avoid very small decorations as she may chew on them and they could get caught in windpipe (like babies). Also, remember to cover up as much of the cord for your xmas lights as you can, or at least put them out of her reach or sight. She may get the urge to chew on these as well.
Otherwise, just be aware that she will play with whatever she can get her paws on. My kitten loved to play with the ball shaped decos and I was forever finding them all around the house. I've also got pictures of her climbing the tree and hiding with her little face poking out as me. Very cute.

Good luck and hope your kitty has a very nice first christmas. I recommend kitty treats and toys in her stocking

Well most likely they are, but icicles are just frozen water so it would probably not do much damage. However to be on the safe side, if your cats aren't declawed, don't let them near the tree. Cats are natural climbers, they'd love to play in the christmas tree.

Treat baby kittens just as you would small children around Christmas season. Stay far away from glass ornaments and get the plastic ones and be careful with how low your hanging the lights.

All of the above are great suggestions. Also, I have had personal experience with my cat trying to bite off beads from the tree skirt, so be careful in that area. I have found a few sites for you to visit if you wish:

My 1 year old tabby just smashed a glass ornament ball an hour ago. I guess my advise is to hang those suckers (the ornaments) higher than your cat could reach.
