Keep a close eye on them; it's possible one of them needs to go to the vet. I had two cats who were litter mates, always got along great except when one of them needed to go to the vet. Particularly, one of them would get urinary tract infections (UTIs), which hurt, and he'd act really cranky with his brother, swat and spit at him in a way that wasn't normal for them. How you tell a UTI: cat keeps getting in litterbox trying to pee but can't; cat rubs its bottom on the ground; cat keeps licking area between its legs as if it's got some kind of irritation; if you pick the cat up and feel the bladder area, it feels swollen. If cat has a UTI it needs to go to vet immediately; they can be fatal if untreated, but clear up quickly with antibiotics....Other types of illness could also make a cat cranky.

That's a puzzle for me. You do say Angel is not spayed. Is she in heat now? That could have stirred things up even if he is neutered. Except Angel must have had heat cycles before and you say they have always gotten along.

Try posing the problem to Dr. Jean Hovfe at www.spiritessence.com. I think you email her at: info@spiritessence.com. Maybe a bottle of her "Peacemaker" for $16.95 would help with the cats. You can read about using flower essences with cats at her site: www.SpiritEssence.com. You would have to wait for that to come in the mail and probably keep the cats separate for that period. You also have to use the essences intensely for a week or ten days. Some will "correct" behavior immediately and it usually takes some time and effort put into it.

If your mother didn't see what happened, there is noone here who can venture a guess. If your female is not spayed, is she in heat? Maybe she is feeling a bit stressed, and you know what they say about always hurting the one you love the most.

If they are going to be hostile, I would keep them separated for a day or two and see how it goes. I know when I get new fosters who stay in isolation for a bit, there is a lot of curiousity expressed on both sides of the closed door. Maybe they can get their emotions sorted out with a little space. If the unspayed female isn't a show cat that needs to be intact, it might not be a bad idea to get her spayed.

I would definitely take them to the vet----in separate carriers of course!

I have 2 cats a male and a female. When I got each one fixed there was a period of a few days when they did fight. It had something to do with their smell. I think they no longer could tell it was the same cat ------their very own brother or sister smelled different and they were defending themselves from danger----Once the smell from the surgical site wore off they were back to being best buddies againg---snuggling together etc.

Maybe one of your cats is sick-----or in pain. Plus vets are accustomed to figuring this type of thing out.

Plus what if one of them has rabies? Very important to see a vet!
Good luck -----if you do get an answer from a vet---let us all know too---

Look around for anything that's changed in their environment that could cause them to turn against one another. It could be something different about one of the cats. But don't worry, because if you can't find the problem, there probably isn't one. Try slowly getting them back used to one another in steps:
1. The way you have them, for about a week.
2. The same floor, but very different rooms, for a few days.
3. In kitty cages for a few hours a day, not facing each other, for one week.
4. In kitty cages for several hours a day, facing each other but far enough apart that they can't fight with their paws, until you think they've calmed down.
5. Try releasing them in the same room. Make sure it's big and you don't hold one of them. They should have cooled off.

Make sure:
-You treat them exactly the same, not favoring one over the other.
-If you see fit to adjust their time in each phase, fine, but one bad thing happens and you send them right back to square one.
-Note: this is a slightly drastic measure for seriously sparring cats, so if they go back to normal within a few days, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

Good luck. If all else fails, don't forget to consult your veterinarian.

It may have something to do with the female not being spayed. She may be giving off some scent that is causing the problem. She may also be acting differently if she is coming "in season" and her hormones are going wild. Wait a week and things should be better.

I say it definately has to do with female not being spayed.. If she's in heat, this is a typical behavior for female cat. Just like humans! I know I am a total B**** right before I get my period.
So the answer is: Get her spayed!!!

well first i would take them both to the vet to make sure they r ok! (ex. like if they got into a toxic plant or something) but then i would suggest getting the female spayed! what might of happened is the male might of tried to mount her and she wouldve gotten pissed! (even if they r neutered they still mount eachother- sometimes) they might just need some time! but i would deff take them to the vet! hope this helps! good luck!

I have a kitten that acts like a dogs each each in certain situations. Its impressive because of the particular fact he is going in his muddle field, keeps sparkling, and can want to't leap for the time of me or bark. So i imagine of he's the perfect little mix lol

Well like someone said it could be the female cat is in heat and like most females who are having their time of the month they get REALLY cranky. Who starts the attack? If its her then it could be if it's him then he might need to visit the vet. how long ago was he nuetured? he might be still trying to get to her even though he can't impregate her and she doesn't want to have anything to do with him
