Apart from instructions in scriptural references, does it have anything to do with robbing the same animal twice? (for example, using the animal for its milk over a prolonged period of time and then killing it for the meat)

umm lets consider this from a medical perspective those who want food poisoning put your hands up and whack your meat and diary together on the same plate or better still do it with pork from a second or third world countries , it seems that the jewish had some medical knowledge even back then........or maybe it was common sense and they just didn't like food that made them really sick

because of the scriptural laws that say do not boila kid in its mother's milk. Its probably to prevent things like food poisoning. Almost every law in the bible has a reason based on fact and sanitary conditions.

Its not kosher ot eat meat and dairy together. That is why most jews don't eat cheeseburgers. Not all jews stay kosher though, its their own choice.

scripture is the only reason....although it is thought that milk protein interferes with the digestion of the meat protein..
