In order to be a HDTV, yours must have a resolution of at least 1280x720. Without the tv model i can't tell if it's a HDTV or not but just let's assume that it is. To get HD you need to have HD signal from your source ( ex: cable provider). You also need component cables, DVI or HDMI cables in order to get a HD picture. Just for example, the xbox 360 and playstation 3 can put out HD signal to your tv through component or DVI/HDMI cable. High Definition dvd player (Blu-ray or HD-Dvd) also can have HD output.

Is it a HD TV to begin with? Just because it's 60 inches doesn't make it a HD TV.

If it's a HD-TV, then you need some sort of HD receiver, such as the one that's provided by your local cable company.
