My 5 month old boxer is, as most are, a jumper. Usually only when she is excited, but I don't want to pop her or scold her knowing that it doesn't work well for boxers, and I don't want to give her negitive attention. what is the best way to teach her to stop jumping? Do I just ignore her when she jumps? or get to her level before she jumps? How can I stop her?

boxers are jumpers; don't pop her or your smart boxer will teach you a lesson when you least expect it ; positive training, consistent and just a firm no ; boxers are so smart, learn fast and love the challenge if anything can really challenge them b/c they are so smart; training with patience and consistency , praise etc that will work; anything else is cruel ; boxers are social animals ; you let it get this far ? so she feels it is okay , you didn't mind before when I was little now it's a problem; won't happen in a day and don't expect it to but they love so much , they will want to please you but not if you are scolding her. I have 2 boxers and love them to pieces.

Definetely DO NOT go down to her level. Everytime she jumps, turn your back on her and give no attention at all. Especially no eye contact. If you are sitting down and she jumps then look straight ahead and stand up immediately. When she stops jumping tell her to sit and reward her if she remains sitting when you go to pat her. A good way to get her to remain sitting is to reward her with food from underneath, as in don't hold the food over her head, hold it between her legs on the ground so she looks down instead of up. Every time before patting her make her sit. Make sure you let everyone who comes into contact with your boxer know your rules and make them give her no attention when she's jumping as well. Good luck!

Mine is 5 years old and is still a kangaroo when someone comes to visit. He's so silly. I yell his name and say "stay down, no jump!" in a stern voice and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I tell the guest to just say hi and tell him to stay down. This usually gets him to stop jumping.
They are just very excitable. Adorable, too.
After a few minutes, it's like normal.
I am looking forward to the answers put here as I would love a good way to stop it as well.

What works with my boxer when we play, is every time he does anything I don't like---if I feel teeth on my skin, or he scratches me with his paws---I stop playing, stand up, and turn away from him, saying, "no." If I still want to play with him, I'll wait until he moves away, then chase after him some more.
Playing is what boxers want more than anything on the planet. If you stop when they misbehave, they learn good manners very quickly.

with a boxer because they need alot of attention and approval, I would just simply when she does jump on you say a sharp and angry No!,when she first jumps up then just ignore her and fold your arms and put your back to her untill she has calmed down, It may take a few weeks, but she will stop jumping once she see's it isn't acceptable behaviour.. Good luck with your boxer they are a wonderful breed!!

You have two options. You can get her a snap collar (known as choke chain, but is not for choking if properly used) and keep her on a leash to practice. When she jumps tell her "NO!" If she stops tell her "good, *name*" If she continues give a quick snap on the collar. This will surprise her and remind her not to jump.
If this doesn't work, they do make harnesses to stop the dog from jumping. It connects the front legs to the back and is completely humane and harmless. Check it out by cutting and pasting the following link to your browser:

Boxers jump. thats what they do. I have known people with them all my life and they just jump when they are happy or at play.

If she is jumping one you try either catching her paws and squeezing them hard and saying no. Or put your knee up when she jumps on you and saying no.
That said. .. one week of the shock collar and my dog never jumped on any strangers again. (I was concerned about him jumping on kids or older people and hurting them.) But I know many people do not like this form of training. I wouldn't advise it for a five month old.
