I have been thinking about getting a lab, but I'm not sure what color to get.

First let me say you're making a great decision getting a lab! :) I'm not biased or anything (okay, maybe I am!).
I've heard that the 'differences' are as follows:
- chocolate labs tend to be the most hyper ones
- black labs are the smarter and more social ones
- yellow labs are the least smartest ones
While my black lab is very social and very smart, I can't say for certain that it is because of his color. I think dogs, like people, are very individualistic and can't be judged by their appearance. I suggest going with whichever color you like. :)

Honestly I believe so the chocolate labs are more high strung. And the black labs are 2nd in line and the yellow labs seem to be the most calm. I have seen alot of Black Labs that are also very over protective!!!!

Just like the others have said there are no differences. same with other breeds that come in different colors. such as great danes, a brindle and a fawn are the same..just a variation of colors.
Good luck with your puppy search. Labs are great dogs. Just make sure to have it get lots of exercise and watch the food intake. Labs are known for being over weight :)

They are just color varieties of the same breed, and all 3 colors can come from the same parents. Be especially sure to buy from a reputable breeder that OFA or Penn Hip certifies their breeding dogs against hip dysplasia, and CERF certifies their eyes - the biggest genetic health concerns in this breed. Go to www.akc.org & find your closest local chapter of the breed's club - this is where the good breeders will be found.

On a personal note, this is a breed more prone to having skin allergies, and it always seemed more Chocolates had this problem than the yellows or blacks - but this is purely a personal observation, not a scientifically proven fact.

get the color that you like the best. I have four two yellows one black, one chocolate. They are all very smart and sweet, but there are a couple of things that you must be ready to deal with. Until they reach adulthood which is really about 18 months to two years old they will chew anything they can find!!!! I cant tell you how many times I've had to fix their chain link fence, yes, they chewed holes in it. They are natural born excape artist!! and they dig holes is your yard. But as for being great dogs they are. They are very loyal and try to please, and the love that you receive from them is unconditional. They are wonderful just be prepaired to work a little bit to keep them safe.

No difference other than color. Get whatever color you like best. Labs are great dogs. I had a yellow one, but she's gone now. Sigh.

there's no distinction based upon the colour of the lab yet labs are very diverse persons. Even in the comparable muddle there will be some that p.c. each and all of the attention, some that are clownish, some that are protecting, and each and each lab will confirm you realize its character. coloration distinction? No. guy or woman variations? particular, many. Labs can and do "do all of it" and that they do it nicely. you only would desire to adventure up the character to the needed training. They do each little thing from seeing-eye to drug detection and each little thing in between.

I have had both a black lab and chocolate labs. All are smart and protective. And good with the kids.

There are differences:

Yellow are more prone to getting sunburn and hotspots.

Back are prone to overheating in hot weather (I have to hose my little mate down to cool him off in the heat and give him iceblocks)

Chocolate...haven't heard anything but giving the colour i would say they are somewhere in the middle.

As for personality and behaviour they are all the same, these are the only differences i know of!

Hope this helps.
