I placed a small Chuck Roast into a Presto Cooker and set the temp to 186. I has literally cooked for some 10 hours and when I tested it, it was tough and not at all falling apart! So, does anyone out there in "cooking land" know what the lowest temperature setting should be and how to prepare the meat for "falling apart?"

I am not familiar with the Presto Cooker, but I do fix pot roast fairly often. I always cook mine at 325 degrees F for at least 3 hours and usually closer to 4. The meat is very tender and falling apart. I season the roast and brown it on all sides before placing it in the oven. I add chicken broth, with a little wine, and any veggies I have on hand. Make sure your liquid comes about halfway up the meat and cover tightly to keep all the moisture in. Good luck.

I always start a roast on 400 for the first 30 minutes (flip at 15 to evenly seal) then lower to 250 for the next 3-4 - by then it is fall apart perfect. To salvage your current roast try bringing it up to 350 and adding your favorite marinade or barbecue sauce to increase the liquid cook for 2 to 2 and 1 half more hours and it should be fall apart yummy. Hope this helps!

This is a no-fail, fall apart tender recipe. Use a chuck roast.

Easy Crockpot Beef Roast

1 chuck or rump Beef Roast (sized for your crockpot)
1/2 Cup of Water
1 Packet of Ranch Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Italian Dressing Mix
1 Packet of Brown Gravy Mix

Put roast in crockpot, pour water around the base. Sprinkle all 3 dry seasoning packets over roast. Cover and cook for 6-7 hours on low. Remove roast to cutting board and let sit 15 minutes; slice thinly across the grain (electric knife works best).

It makes great tasting gravy too, that tastes like you browned it and simmered it all day on the stove.
