Today a very speical co-worker of mine was liad off and it was done very unicely and very unfairly. She was a hard worker and an advocate and a protecter of people a really good person, she is hurt and upset and rightfully so. My question is what can I do to help her and encourage her during this time. I went through a very tough layoff 2 years ago and this woman was the one who got me hired at this company I am in now. I called her at home and she does want us to always be friends and keep in touch, I feel awful about what had happened and today was a bad day at work.
Any good suggestions of what I can give her or do for her to make her feel better?

I'm sure your coworker will sense the compassion and kindness that you've demonstrated in this question. I think you'll know what to do.

Just lend a sympathetic ear.
