Lots of litter ends up in rivers and streams where it slowly dissolves and releases toxins into the water. Water pollution is bad for us if it gets into our drinking water. Those toxins also get into fish and other creatures that live in the water, which hurts them and is bad for us because we like to eat those things.

Radon is an inert gas (like helium, argon, krypton and xenon), so chemically it is harmless in small quantities. Unfortunately, it is also radioactive, so any creature breathing it is exposed to the possibility of cancer. This would definitely put your cat at risk (I have seven cats BTW). But there is a larger issue. As a gas, unless your basement is hermetically sealed, the radon will get into the rest of your house, if there is any present. You should take steps to seal the basement from radon infiltrating from the ground, if it is present, and have an exhaust fan get it out if any is coming in. I assume your home is on the Reading Prong or some similar geological formation. Do not skimp on this test. When you decide to sell the house, you could be embarassed by a potential purchaser having a radon test done.

It depends on the kind of litter, but none is good. We are a part of the food chain & anything which affects the environment will eventually affect us.
