Mouthwash rinses, using an antiseptic mouthwash like Listerine or even a mild salt water solution will help. They have products like Camphophenique which also can help, and some that will make it hurt less by numbing the pain temporarily. That can be helpful when you eat. Be sure to keep up with the brushing and flossing, oral health is especially important. At the pharmacy you can ask the pharmacist to recommend the products which will be most helpful to encourage it to heal and feel better. If it doesn't heal within a week or so, a visit to the doctor or dentist is in order to get a stronger medication. If the sore spreads, it is not a simple cold sore and will need attention then. There are other infections that can happen in the mouth that need antibiotics or other medicines to cure. In the meantime, don't kiss other people and don't share things like cups or straws, or even bites using the same silverware. You aren't particularly contagious, but it's not something you want to share just in case. Try to eat and chew using the opposite side of the mouth for a while, and rinse your mouth out with water at least, after eating. With luck, it will be gone in a week or so.
