Germany would win this one hands down. Germany, if unchecked would have at its disposal all of Europe including England and Russia. With that amount of industry, Japan would not have stood a chance. Remember, the best scientists (Oppenheimer, Einstein, Werner von Braun and others) would have developed the atomic bomb for Germany and not the US. Von Braun developed the V2 rockets which almost brought England to its knees. Further, he led the research which produced the Saturn V rocket that took us to the moon in 1969.

The Germans has superior technology and tactics which is why Europe was overwhelmed so quickly. Blitzkrieg was unheard of because the rest of Europe was still using WWI tactics and technology. Imagine Germany having control of Russia's oilfields and factories and cranking out countless tanks and armaments. Worse still, if the Germans controlled US factories and resources, there would be no stopping them. Hitler woud indeed have a thousand year Reich. Scary in and of itself.

Japan had no natural resources of its own which is why many believe the war in the Pacific was started. Even if Japan had conquered the Pacific rim, its conquests would have paled in comparison to ALL of Europe, and Russia as well as North Africa being under German control. Japan had the honor code of Bushido and had numerous Kamikaze squadrons, but you have to have victories to keep morale up. An atomic bomb or bombs would eventually have brought the Japanese to their knees and the surrender table.

Germany, hands down! To the fellows who stated-

"However japan would win because of their peoples suicidal loyalty to the emperor. After the death of the third reich nazi soldiers surrendered and gave in."

I'd have to remind them that the Germans, particularly the Waffen SS, were beyond fanatical! During the battle on the Eastern Front, the German 2nd Army was nearly surrounded. A regiment of SS (roughly 2,000 soldiers) were sent in to stop the Russian advance. They ended up pushing the Russians back 40 miles. When the Army commander mustered the SS soldiers for commendation, there were only 19 soldiers left. THAT is fanatical.

Japan, assuming they beat the USA and had time to rebuild the industrial base and the war didn't last too long. Also the Japanese military had long range air power, and knew how to use it. They also have a very power Navy. Also the Japanese, had jet power just like the German's although the German was further along the the Japanese. As history has shown, you must rule the sky before you can rule the ground.

The reason I said as long as it didn't last too long was the Japanese mind set was that they really didn't bring back pilots from the front to train new ones. So, as the pilots got shot down they lost the experience they had learned.

Just my opinion

Germany would win in an all out war between the two. Japan couldn't even defeat China which was truly a weaker nation at the time.

there are multiple sides to this of which im not going into all of them. However japan would win because of their peoples suicidal loyalty to the emperor. After the death of the third reich nazi soldiers surrendered and gave in. Japan only gave up after we wiped thousands of their people from the planet. However it would never have happened. Simply because of the fact that niether side would remain untouched. besides why think about it this way anyway. the horrors of world war 2 were bad enough. so thinking of a way of making these events of thoughts of events worse is just stupid.

intereesting question. being on different sides of the world, it would alll depend where they fought. if germany had tried to take any of asia, it would have lost and the same applies if Japan had tried to get into europe. the German army was more technologically advanced, i think, on land. the war would never have been all-out, but the germans were closer to a nuclear bomb than the Japanese. therefore, hiroshima and nagasaki (bad enough) might have been replaced by a tokyo nuke.
Germany would have won.

Germany.

Germany had the industrial might and was able to develop more advanced weapons during the war. Germany would be attacking Japan with jet fighters and bombers, vs. Japan's older propeller driven planes.

Germany.

For all those who talk about Japan's suicidal loyality, yeah it was impressive, but it didn't cause them to win battles. It just meant more people were killed. Look at battles like Iowa Jima, where Japan had18 thousand killed compared to only 6 thousand for the US, or Okinawa with 66 thousand for Japan vs 12.5 thousand for the US. So the Japanese were good at dieing but not as good at killing their enemies, the real purpose of a war
