i used to have braces. i got mine done at an orthodontist. they do hurt when they 1st out them on, and for about a couple of days, but after that it doesnt really hurt anymor. it's a bit difficult eating things when u hav braces on. u hav to make sure u dont eat any food that's hard because that can damage the braces. i found it was quite cool when i had braces on because no one really noticed, and i got to choose every couple of months which colour to have, in which i got to have every colour they had. i only got to have them on for almost two years, but it did help. just a bit of advise. when u go into the room where you're having the braces put on, dont go in there worrying about how much it's gonna hurt, because it doesnt hurt that much and worrying about it is only gonna make things worse. go in there feeling confident and good about it. i know i used to worry because of the pain and that i had to hav them on for a while, and i thought it would take a long time, but the months went quite quickly and it was over b4 i knew it.

I had braces for 2 1/2 years, ages 10-13. Sorry to tell you, but they hurt like none other. The best way to stave off the pain is to take Advil before your appointment. It won't get rid of the pain, but it will delay and lower it. Take Advil every 6 hours or so, for as long as it is healthy. It's the only way to handle it.
Good luck! Just remember the gorgeous smile you will have.

Braces are painful when you first get them. The couple of days after are not so much painful as they are awkward. After that, they feel almost natural. The thing you have to watch out for, though, is sleeping with your face on the pillow. When I had them my upper lip used to get stuck on the metal and start bleeding. Also, especially watch out if you're in any sort of contact sport like rugby or wrestling for the same reason.
Good luck!

Used to have braces about 18 years ago. It is pretty uncomfortable at first, but then you don't really notice as much. The only time(s) that they really bothered me was when I went to have them tightened. But that only lasted for about a day. Good luck! It's not that bad. You will be very happy with your new smile when it is all over.

Used to. They hurt when they first put them on but only a little. After a few days, you forget they are there.

I had them about 15 years ago. They'll be sore for a few days, but it's not what I would call pain. It's not excruciating.
