Yes, I believe it is safe. Cordless phones, lined phones, cell phones and Internet banking are not 100% secure (either are checks, ATMs, etc). All can be listened in on or hacked or forged. Your security however comes from two things: 1) sheer numbers and probability - what are the odds of a thief zeroing in and capturing your account card number and access code at the precise time you are accessing your account through the telephone or internet and then figuring out how to get the funds into their account? very low, almost nil. 2) Secondly, your protection comes from insurance. Most banks and Credit Unions have depositors insurance to a maximum of $100,000.00. This protects you in the event of fraud.

Banks have precautions set up so it is VERY difficult to remove money from your account.
It's unlikely that someone listening to your cell or cordless conversation would be able to get into your account.

Not entirely sure bout this but would be safer using a regular land-line. Suspect online banking is even safer than that!
If they already have certain info (SSN, Debit Card #, etc), I will usually just give them the last 4 digits and that is often enough!
Hope this helps!

I would not recommend doing any banking over the cell phone. Use a land line (and that's not 100% safe either but way better than cell phones).
