I can think of better places to live than Buffalo. Very, very cold in the winter tons of snow, hot , humid and rainy in the summer.but the city is just like any other big city,Why not check out Denver , Co, Denver gets snow, not too much, about 60 inches a year, but and hour away in the mts. it's measured in feet not inches, was 10 degrees on sat it was 48 today , as much sunshine ae Miami over 300 days a year but dry, check it out

My entire extended family lives in Buffalo, and its awful. The population of the area has steadily declined over the last 2 decades, which means cheap houses, but the weather is really, really bad. (Be prepared to buy a 4-wheel drive vehicle!) We live in Chicago, now, and it's so-o much better, just to give you an example. To say that it's really unbelievably cold and it snows a LOT, is really putting it mildly. Plus, all that time indoors has made people from the area generally unfriendly, especially if you can't drive in bad weather!! Although there's malls and some nice parks for the summer, there's not really that much to do. Niagara Falls is nice (well, the Canadian side is), but the only skiing is not that close and not that good.
Honestly, it would, without a doubt, be the very, very last place in the United States that I'd move to. I'd take Cleveland or Hoboken, New Jersey, over Buffalo, any day (although they're close to the bottom of the list, too!). For a chance to try colder climates, I'd pick Colorado or Vermont way before Buffalo.

Buffalo gets a bad rap for its weather, it is true. It does get a lot more snow than many places due to being on the east end of Lake Erie, but it's really no colder than most Great Lakes area locations, and is actually warmer than many in the northern Midwest.
It's not a bad city per se, and (other than heating) costs of living are fairly low. The city and county governments have been in and out of financial difficulties.
In summer, it is quite nice, right along the lake there are some nice parks. It has its nice areas and its less nice neighborhoods as well. Visit before you commit to it.

people don't move TO Buffalo , they move FROM Buffalo. There are a lot of really great cold places in America and Canada but Buffalo isn't one of them
If you need to freeze in winter and risk dying of the heat in summer Chicago is a great place to start a new life . I think that Chicago is the second greatest city in America [ with NYC being first]
Toronto ON CA is another great place to freeze your tail off for a winter. Check w/ Canadian immigration as to how to do it.
And then there is Denver -definitely worth a look.
If all else fails you could do what I did in the early 70's get some food service skills and become a ski-bum.
have fun

Buffalo??? I hear it's extraordinarily cold and way distant from everywhere. I hear it has been known to snow in June in that part of the state. I hear it's kinda tough and depressed. I know SUNY Buffalo is there, and the school has a pretty good reputation. I know Rick James was from Buffalo. I think Ani DiFranco is from Buffalo, and I think she has got some cultural stuff going on there, like I think a performance space in an old church. That's about all I know about Buffalo. If you want cold, why not go to Chicago, which is a great city and gets plenty cold, but at least doesn't snow in June? Or Milwaukee, which is close to Chicago? Or Minneapolis/St. Paul, which always seems like a good place? Or Boston? Or Maine, which is at least supposed to be spectacularly beautiful? I mean, why Buffalo??

I went to college in Buffalo. It gets really cold in the winter and gets pretty boring. People there are really down to earth and really nice. Living expenses there are really affordable.
Well there always lots of events such as concerts during the summer time. My friend lives up there and she's orginally from California and she loves living up there. But you would need a car to get around because the public transportation is not that great.

Be careful. I'm originally from Florida too, and the move to Ohio nearly killed me. (It's around a 50+ degree difference during the winter months here and probably around 70 or so in difference between Buffalo and Miami.) I can't even imagine Buffalo. I agree with the gent who said to think about Denver...or Cincy...or Pittsburgh...or New York... Best of luck.

It depends on what you want from a city. If you want lots of snow in the winter, there's no shortage here. If you want lots of living space, there's no shortage here. Rent is cheap and so is real estate. If you like professional sports, we have hockey, football and minor league baseball. If you like the arts, there is a lively arts community here. There's a world-class art mueseum and lots of smaller galleries. There are a fair number of good restaurants. We get a fair number of non-mainstream movies here. We are close to Toronto for good shopping. It's basically a safe city -- you generally don't feel threatened on the streets. On the other hand, you don't do a lot of walking because you need a car to get around. If you like theater, there are lots of small theatre companies. If you like Broadway stuff, they bring in all of the traveling shows. It's not a good place for nature lovers, pedestrians, or people who want to brag about the size or the cool factor or the beauty of city they live in, but I find it a comfortable, affordable and friendly place to live.

I have lived here my entire life as well as traveled around the entire USA. DO NOT listen to what anybody tells you about Buffalo.Visit here for 1 week and that will tell you everything you need to know.Being the kindest, gentlest, most down to earth city in the country that I know of, you are welcome to live with our family or dozens of other homes free of charge (that's the kind of people we are here) for the week. Good luck and Godspeed !!!
