It's one of two things. Either he has fleas or a possible skin irritation or allergy. Fleas like to stay around the butt area and on the lower back, make sure you have him on a good flea preventative like frontline. It he doesn't have fleas he could have allergy to possibly something blooming, a cleaner you used, or even his food. Also make sure when you bathe him you are getting all the soap off because that can also irritate the skin. If you don't see that he has fleas you should take in to the vet to find out what it could be cause if he starts to scratch too much he could get an infection in his skin and then it will be really bad. Also if he is allergic to anything the doctor can guide you in the right direction in finding out what it is.

Hello..I had the same problem with my dog. And she also was scratching her ears a lot. I took her to the vet and she has allergies. The vet said that dogs get allergies like people do. I also found out my sister had the same problem with her dog. The symptoms from allergies are: Chewing and scratching their butts, licking or bitting their paws, shaking their heads and scratching their ears. They may do some or all of these. Also you should have your dog checked for worms. If it is allergies..my vet told me to give my dog benadryl..the tablets. I have done this and it help. If you have winter where you live it should stop. At least until spring time again. Take your dog to the vet to make sure.

Your dog obviously has worms. You can buy medicane from your local pet store, but beware. Some of these medications do not work as well and have worse side effects. Your best bet is to go to the vet to insure that your dog has nothing more serious wrong as these worms can potentially cause problems with the intestines. Good Luck!
